Description

A country house weekend takes a turn for the worse when Bertie Wooster, loveable layabout, must play matchmaker for his newt-loving friend Gussie Fink-Nottle. Ably assisted by his wry personal Gentleman’s Gentleman (valet) Jeeves, Bertie must secure nuptial bliss for Gussie and the drippy Madeline Basset or bid farewell to his own dear bachelorhood. Cow-creamer, wannabe dictator, and newt-fuelled mayhem ensues.

A show where cast members have to play multiple characters, especially wildly different ones, quickly becomes two shows at once: the audience is invested in the plot, but they're also invested in the whole question of 'how will the actors pull this off?' A group can succeed at one and fumble the other and still have a good play; when they do BOTH they've really won. And that's what happened here! They chose Wodehouse's funniest story, but even if the company had been acting out, idk, flour commercials from the 1950s their style of split-second changes and prop mishaps would have made for amazing viewing.

The only flaw, and it's barely a flaw, is that the actor who played Bertie seemed too handsome and competent for his role! Maybe it's just that I'm used to picturing Hugh Laurie and should have a more open mind about these things.

A perfectly-pitched performance. A talented group of young actors at full throttle. Such a joy!
My first show at this year's Fringe, but unfortunately their last. It definitely deserved a longer run.

A joyful experience delivered with an innocence that would surely have pleased Wodehouse.

Well worth while the early start, light touch comedy with well drawn characters from 4 cast I’d recommend highly

A lovely way to end our Fringe. A cast of four playing multiple roles with panache and doing full justice to the imaginative quirks of Wodehouse’s plotting. A great way to start a day. Jolly good show!

An entire Wodehouse novel (The Code Of The Woosters, I believe) condensed into an hour's performance with a cast of only four covering all of key characters: Jeeves, Wooster, Sir Watkyn Bassett, Roderick Spode, Madeleine Bassett, Constable Oates, Gussie Fink-Nottle, Aunt Dahlia and Stephanie Byng.

Clever writing and swift costume changes are required to pull this off, and both were done excellently, with no apparent loss of any of the comic gems of the original.

Highly recommended.

A perfectly spiffing start to the day. Fringe fun at its best. Simply presented, wonderfully played. Well done chaps and chappesses.

What a perfect start of a day at the Fringe. Four very enthusiastic young actors in a very witty play. Especially the fact that three of the four actors play more than one characters which involves quick changing is fun. Five stars for the actor who plays Jeeves. He knows how to play a broad range of characters and the changing from one character to another is hilarious

What tremendous fun ! We thoroughly enjoyed this show and clearly, so did the cast !
Madcap fun with a talented crew, each of whom seems to play about 3 different characters, often changing in a moment.
This was the most we laughed at the Fringe...recommended.
