Description

With seven nominations and two wins at the Durham Drama Festival 2024 (including Best Actor), Influenced is a cautionary tale of online influencers and their world of unchecked power. This 'triumph of a one man show' (DurhamStudentTheatre.org) tells the story of an insecure young man twisted into a social media influencer, spreading lies he doesn't believe. In his struggle with truth, trust and toxic masculinity, what will he do with his new empire? He influences millions, what influences him? 'Impressive all-round Marc Twinn’s Influenced is a gripping watch' ***** (Palatinate).

Fresh. Brave. Introspective.
As much as this show may have hit home, it teaches an important lesson. We could all be Eric depending on how our lives mold us. Important topics were portrayed directly, and no dialogue was wasted.
With the topic being so expansive, the show could have been longer, but paired with the lighting and clothing choices, it was effective. There was an art to this show. Marc certainly had an aptitude for multi-rolling with incredible development within characters and distinction between them.
Marc cleverly depicts the ethics underpinning engagement on social media, not until confronted by the very real consequences of posting online can you pair the raw data of post engagement to the individuals behind the stats.
A ride of emotions; laughs, awe, tears… the works. Looking forward to see what Marc does next.

Anti-hero storytelling at its finest. The complexities of his character as he wrestles with doing what he knows will wound makes for a story reminiscent of John Knowles' A Separate Peace. Sooner or later we all need to decide if we want to be loved or isolated, and what we are willing to give up in the pursuit of so-called connection.

This was so worth the watch. I’m 60, rubbish at Social Media, took my 13yr old foster son. What a brilliant living lesson in the horrors of human manipulation. Utterly absorbing, believable and emotive performance by Marc Twinn. I can’t recommend this highly enough. Still thinking and talking about it. Darkness of Baby Reindeer, humour of Fleabag. Should be obliged viewing in every school!

Amazing show! Caught my attention the whole way since I got very invested into his character and acting. The whole time felt very quick and would love to watch his show again if I ever have a chance to!

To have a cis white straight passing man step on stage and do a one-person show could be a devastating 50 minutes of your life wasted, but Marc Twinn fills every single second with such poignancy and vibrance it has you immediately wishing you could watch it all over again. Marc flits between Erik a lonely young man and Alex an arrogant rich douche, a character he secretly wishes to be. Isolated, bullied and in desperate need of friends we watch Erik trade his morality for friendship. Is the cost of your integrity loneliness? Can you be a sensation without being divisive? Who do you answer to? When shall you say no to your own architected images of self? Are you a liar? Who are you lying to first? Influenced is a truthful, unsettling, and brilliant depiction of the loneliness men in particular face in a culture that is continually propagandizing the painted self-image. Go see Influenced and listen to this exquisite cautionary tale.

A dark 1 man show, with a clearly talented individual. See him before he's famous!

This is a wonderfully performed 1 man show, where you become fully engrossed in the tale of Erik and his vulnerabilities, yet are met with twists and turns that encourage the insight that human emotions are not as simple as 'right or wrong', and the need for acceptance can really make you leave your morals at the door. Marc's energy on stage was unmatched and his ability to keep you engaged was remarkable.

Exploring a very current theme, Marc's portrayal of Eric was simply brilliant! A superb one-man show, I would highly recommend this 5/5 show! We left the show feeling terrified thinking about how many "Erics" are really out there.
