Description

This immersive family drama, about an older relative’s act of aggression towards a biracial child, actively investigates white privilege, judgement, identity and bias. I Am, Other invites the audience, through interactive engagement, to explore why it is not okay to be different. Spectators become participants in shaping the lens through which they see the world. At the beginning they are presented with a scenario and a point of view, then guided through gamified scenes, and asked to reflect on the event's repercussions. After a replay of the initial scenario, has their viewpoint changed? Q&A after performance.

I wasn't sure what to expect when reading this show was immersive and it truly was, you were active participants in an unfolding tense scene where you were asked to engage with the actors as they asked for your honest solutions, thoughts and opinions. It was a powerful and triggering play where it was great to be part of the discussion as to the positions we find ourselves in where exploring race and culture.

It won't sit comfortably as you are challenged to your beliefs but it's not meant to, it left me feeling invigorated and moved, well recommended to be used in schools and workshops as part exploring and promoting anti racist practices
