Description

What does it mean to be English anymore?... Strawberries? Scones? Jerusalem?... What is England now? This is George’s story: powerful, shocking, radical. a story of childhood joy, passionate relationships, and how he slowly falls down the dark rabbit hole of radicalisation. Manchester born and bred, George tries to manage his loneliness and depression through his phone. A lifeboat that helps him to not feel alone. Social media can bring you to the surface, or it can take you deeper into the depths. An immersive monologue that treads the boundaries of dark comedy and tragedy.

I am George Massey (****)
A fellow suffers from depression (PTSD?) after experiencing 9/11 when he was eight years old. Despite counseling and prescribed medications, he slowly becomes radicalized and slides to the edge of society. His portrayal is riveting without sensationalism.

This is the 9th most enjoyable of the 111 shows I have seen so far at the Fringe this year. I hope to see more than 150 this year. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: https://fringefan.com/

This was one of the most powerful shows I saw this year. A talented young actor and a skilled writer. The play shows the fear and loneliness underneath the anger of the keyboard warrior. An important story that deserves a big audience.

The Real Chrisparkle (5/5 stars) 23 days ago

Raising very pertinent issues that affect us all, this is an emotional, gripping and powerful play; technically flawless, and immaculately written and performed by Stephen Dee.
