Description
A love story told through powerhouse ballads, popular hits and original songs. Hajar J. Woodland was raised in a strict Muslim household where birthdays weren’t celebrated and performing on stage was banned, and yet somehow she ended up a professional singer entertaining celebrities and finance bros at luxury events and private parties. First Love weaves original music, stories and Hajar’s favourite songs from her 15-year singing career into a sincere show that explores what it means to find love and your voice. 'Really good' (Leona Lewis). Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. This is what the fringe is about! A totally unique, engaging and heart-warming show that you can stumble into for free inside a grunge bar. Rather than a particular genre (standup, one woman show, singing show) that Hajar was trying to fit into, it just felt completely like the show was fitting into her. I hope this show gets the funding it deserves because I could really see it on a bigger stage next year.

The most refreshingly honest and enjoyable show. Anyone who has spent their life caught between two worlds will find it powefully relatable, with the additional bonus of Hajar’s beautiful voice and songwriting.

This show is refreshing. Her voice carries the story as it has carried her throughout the hard times and the good times. She is sensational. You definitely should not miss it.

This is what the Fringe is all about - a talented performer in an intimate venue offering an hour's entertainment. When Hajar started singing it took me a few moments to work out she wasn't lip-syncing. The show has a mixture of storytelling, observational comedy and original songs that you will want to see early so you can tell people "I saw her free Fringe show before she was big". Big as in famous.
