Description

Author and dancer Ben Kassoy brings poems from his spectacularly original book to life in The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack, a genre-defying solo show celebrated as 'inspired, powerful and thoroughly entertaining' (LA Hidden Gems) and 'intimate, affecting and revelatory' (StageAndCinema.com) at sold-out shows in New York and LA. Directed by award winner Joanna Simmons (Mark Pleases You, Best Man Show), The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack is bursting with humour, heart and wonder, using spoken word, dance and physical theatre to reveal the connections between panic, poetry… and pancakes.

I laughed, I cried, I wanted some pancakes. Ben’s raw and honest performance had me hooked from the start. His talented writing and movement were evident throughout the show.

An extraordinary show! Ben is vulnerable, funny, and a multi-talented performer and writer. An engaging, touching, and raw show unlike any other I’ve seen at fringe. A must-see!!!!

A sweaty middle aged man poorly break danced while shilling a book. I wanted to leave but he placed a chair in front of the door and I figured it would be rude to move it in case it was necessary for the performance. Light technician was good though.

What an incredible performance! Ben brings his poetry to life in this show. He is vulnerable and funny and engaging. The dancing is excellent, the music is great and he really takes you on a ride through his portrayal of panic and anxiety. A must see!

Poetry, dance, comedy, theater, and a deeply personal story about panic attacks by the multi-talented performer Ben Kassoy. These 45min are intense, moving, confusing, thought-provoking and fun! It is like a Ben takes you on a rollercoaster ride through the up and down of a life with panic attacks. This show will stay in my head for a long time. Thanks Ben!

Unexpectedly teared up at this poignant, lovely show. Poetry, blended with storytelling, blended with physical theatre and breakdancing. I don’t know what I expected (more pancakes, maybe?) but I was delighted by what I received: truly a lovely window into a truly lovely soul.

At once vulnerable and fun, seamlessly switching back and forth from personal moments to comedy, taking us on a journey similar to having a friend walk us thru a very intense and delightful day. My child was inspired to dance with Ben and was moved by the depth he shared about loving his mom, struggling with medication, and in general working to be better. It felt familiar and yet also built my empathy for a journey I didn’t fully understand until I saw this show. You will be thankful to experience Ben & his generosity. Don’t miss it!

A captivating one-person performance which perfectly captures the complex feelings of panic attacks. From deeply personal poetry to exuberant dancing, this show has varied and compelling content with a strong through line. 5/5 stars.

Words cannot describe the raw emotional charged beauty that was this show. Ben took us on a deeply personal journey using poetry, comedy, and best of all DANCE that left my whole group charged. The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack is an absolute must see show for anyone who has struggled with mental health or anyone who needs a personal in depth look at the struggles that someone dealing with mental health goes through. Not only was the show an amazing expression, Ben is a genuinely kind human. After his performance he spent time with us answering questions, taking pictures, and best of all teaching us some killer dance moves. If you have to pick a show to see this Fringe make sure The Funny Thing About A Panic Attack is one of them.
