Description

One man, one monster, one glorious dream to singlehandedly tell the most famous horror story of all time, and absolutely no budget whatsoever. Featuring one actor, an epic soundtrack, some decidedly dodgy backdrops, lots of weather-based puns, plenty of cardboard props and more hats than you can throw a stick at. This is the comedy-musical Hammer-horror homage that you didn't know you needed. From the creators of the hit War of the Worlds (On a Budget): ***** (TheatreScotland.co.uk), **** (Stage).

We were at the show last week. My partner and I have a checklist for the fringe every year and lamphouse theatre is always a must for us. Always the highlight for us and this year's performance was no different. Such talent and so naturally funny. We love you to bits!

Maggie Allison 15 days ago

A show that encapsulates the absolute essence of the fringe. Clever, decent songs decently sung. This show is a must see.

Ross Fitzpatrick 16 days ago

What a wonderful show. The props are everything and the rapport between the two are amazing.
So so funny, I was cackling from beginning to end, very joyous.
Come to Dublin with this show, it’ll kill.

Frank Wright 18 days ago

Very entertaining Fringe show. Creative, fun and weird, but all leading to an entertaining mix that is well worth seeing at the festival.

Thomas Warriner 18 days ago

The one-man show done just right: innovative and effective props and costume; energy which never dips; total command of the audience through audience interaction and perfect timing; and catchy songs performed with an amazing voice.
5 stars and would recommend to anyone, this is perfect EdFringe.

Dan May 18 days ago

Really funny and insanely high energy considering it's mostly all done by one man jumping back and forth between characters at breakneck pace, juggling props and more costume changes than a taylor swift concert! Despite the put-on 'jankyness' of the show it's brilliantly performed and amazingly clever. Tom has an incredible voice, and with Becky the narrator they are a really great duo!
Only issue now is I've had 'travels, travels' stuck in my head since I saw the show last week...
10/10!

Jodie Hicks 20 days ago

Brilliantly bonkers, I was howling with laughter the whole way through! This is not to be missed.

Agnes Joyce Wells 20 days ago

What a hoot of a show. Loads of handmade props that made it even funnier. Book soon It may be a sell out!

Charley Bakalarczyk 20 days ago

Absolutely loved this, laughing from start to finish, totally mental and exactly what you’d expect from Frankenstein on a budget! Definitely recommend seeing!

Andy Saxby 21 days ago

Just go and see this show ! I've seen it twice and it gets better every time. Tom and Becky are just brilliant, great songs , plenty of laughs. The best show I've seen at the fringe this year. Just amazing, not to be missed.

Jill Saxby 21 days ago

I loved this show. There is comedy and cabaret, pace and pathos, frantic (and surprising) costume changes groan aloud puns and lots of cardboard.
Tom has the voice of an angel (although I'm not sure where the angel is lol) and I especially enjoyed the final song, to which I found I shed a tear.
If you enjoy period literature based comedy musicals with lots of audience participation, this is the show for you.
If you don't, I'd recommend you go anyway.

Just brilliant brilliant brilliant, so cleverly done, great songs and so very funny, just go and see it if you can, well deserved standing ovation at end

Brilliant show, musical, funny with excellent timing and great flow, highly recommended

james smith 23 days ago

The funniest musical about reanimated corpses in which I have ever been forced to dance at the point of a drill. This show is what the fringe is all about.

Amanda Lindley 24 days ago

So much fun, loved every second. Such a highlight of my Fringe this year.

Moira Hamilton 24 days ago

I have seen plenty of good comedy shows this fringe, but this is the only one that had me in tears. They were streaming down my face. I was literally holding back laugh-sobs so as not to disturb the show. And hey! to top it all off, surprisingly faithful? Although im now adjusting my interpretation of the novel to include the lightning bolt as an equal partner and parent to the creature:)

Frederik Bang 24 days ago

Utterly flawless, crying with laughter, one of the best comedies I’ve seen at the fringe. Whether or not you’ve read Frankenstein you’ve got to see this!

Simon Fink 25 days ago

Saw 15 shows in 48 hours this year (2024) and this one was the best! Joyous, bonkers, funny, clever..! The actor/singer who plays this is surely destined for bigger things. He's got funny bones. Go see this if you possibly can.

James Arbuthnaught 25 days ago

Perfectly bonkers theatre. Don't ever give this man proper funding for his shows, what he does on a budget is theatrical genius. We all laughed from beginning to end. We loved his War of the Worlds (on a budget) last year and Frankenstein is just as good. We can't wait to see what 2025 brings.

Peter Sharp 25 days ago

Fabulous entertainment,an hour just zipped by.Full of clever storytelling and glorious puns.Tom and Becky really bring this monster to life.Grab a ticket while you can,the best thing I’ve seen.

Dana 25 days ago

Such a joy to watch this show! Great energy and a light dose of audience participation made it all the more enjoyable. Already being a fan of Frankenstein myself, I highly recommend seeing this very silly and very fun adaptation of the classic!

Saskia 25 days ago

Well performed and well crafted. A familiar story skillfully told with well written music, delightful jokes & callbacks, surprising and joyful costumes, and expert timing. Such a delight!

Robert Horwich 26 days ago

What a great show, tremendous fun throughout and well thought out.
Highly recommended.

It's when you see a show like this that you realise what all of those other shows you've seen were trying to do.
Delightfully bonkers, laugh out loud funny, great songs and an awful lot of heart - Tom's multi character room through Mary Shelly's masterpiece is a tour de force (and Becky is no slouch as narrator, stage manager, etc al).
Worth going twice!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Frankinstein on a budget - well, that was the best £30 I have spent in a long time. It was very funny and highly entertaining and they were give a well-deserved standing ovation by the audience at the end. Bravo! Go and see it - you won't regret it!

Alex Wierzbicka 26 days ago

This was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Even though it is "on a budget" you can tell A LOT of thought and effort went into it. It doesn't feel like "this is bad and that's all that is funny about it". I was fully crying from laughter. What a great experience 10/10

Roger Hamilton 26 days ago

The funniest version of Frankenstein you could imagine and a brilliant introduction for my 14 year old daughter doing it for GCSE. The adaptation makes the story easy to understand, is totally hilarious while acknowledging the serious issues of scientific developments, meddling with dead bodies, playing god and being human. Go to this show!

Frankenstein (on a budget) *****
Easily my favorite of the Fringe so far. One man shows are hit or miss and this f-ing HIT. The music was great, audience engagement was awesome and I definitely could feel cramps from laughing so hard. A VERY good show.

Definitely looking out for shows from this company next year.

This is great fun. If you like madness, silliness and great talent in storytelling, clowning around and singing them up enjoy this. Completely madcap but very enjoyable.

This is such a funny show. Non stop high energy performance with clever lines and amusing well sung lyrics. Close to the book too..in a bizarre and endearing way! Highly recommended.

Nic Gordon 31 days ago

So much fun and the level of creativity in the staging was brilliant, constantly bringing out new ideas and props and performed with tons of enthusiasm!

Pam Sharp 31 days ago

Loved this show. Great fun, told the story with some great props and costumes. The main actor has a fabulous voice and a great range of facial expressions. The narration really adds to it too. Lots of laughs, some marvellous props.
I'd give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic show! Really funny all the way down; cleverly crafted and hilariously performed. I am a huge Frankenstein fan and you can tell how much they love the story, both the Mary Shelley novel and its silver screen legacy. My favourite Frankenstein I have ever seen live. I will gladly see it again given the chance!

We went as a group of 2 families with children ranging from 8-13years . We all absolutely loved it .
The commitment, vocal talents and acting of the main character are off the charts. We went with high expectations having seen last year's production of War of the World's, and we were not disappointed.
Funny, high energy and extremely entertaining.

The songs, while comic, are surprisingly high-effort, demonstrating Fox’s impressive range and skill, especially as he often has to change character half-way through.

It’s fast paced and friendly and involves a little audience participation which was warmly welcomed. No need to have read the book or seen the films, this is the zany, condensed version of Mary Shelley’s lasting legacy to the horror genre.
