DARKFIELD's Flight takes place in absolute darkness in an Airbus 320 economy cabin, inside a shipping container. It explores the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, taking audience members through two worlds, two realities and two possible outcomes to their journey. There are many worlds in which this plane lands safely. DARKFIELD produces innovative immersive experiences utilising striking sets, shipping containers, binaural 360 degree sound, complete darkness and a variety of sensory effects, where each participant is situated at the centre of intense, evolving narratives. I feel short-changed since I was denied the sensory deprivation the experience hinges upon- there is a gap between the front of the plane and the fuselage wall that lets in chinks of light. Sort it out guys.
(Also, like another reviewer, I did this before (in 2022) and it seems less substantial now-have they cut it down?)

A good idea but it's just a lot of muffled drivel by people who don't understand aviation or, it seems, any of the material they're trying to put across. They're not keen on constructive audience feedback either, A big disappointment.

I try to get to a Darkfield show every year - it's amazing how they can extract such different results from the same working material (darkness, directional headphones and vibration effects). This one was thought-provoking and effective.

Flight left me pretty confused this year. I've done a number of the Darkfield experiences before and particularly liked Seance. I did Flight when it was last at the Edinburgh Fringe and i'm unsure if its me or the fact it was the second time i'd done it but it felt particularly underwhelming and odd this year. It feels like it has changed since the last time I did it, with less narrative or elements to it. What is not particularly great is the very abrupt ending which for everyone that I know that has done Flight and I have spoken to about it, they have all said the same thing - 'was that it'. The lights come back on and you're expecting more and everyone walks out feeling confused and underwhelmed. Don't know whats happened and if it has changed, but wouldn't recommend this year. Sorry guys - really love most of the stuff you do but this wasn't it this year.

I love darkfield so this was gonna be a win for me no matter what. loved loved the set and the left side optical effect

I have not gone to a Darkfield performance before, so I have nothing to compare it to. I see there are hard mixed reviews.
My take was that it was a very interesting way to tell a story. It's heavily reliant on your imagination, sound, and slight movement. I feel like that is why this is so mixed. You get what you put into the experience. If you are wanting to just sit back and be entertained i'm not sure that you will love it. If you allow your mind/imagination to engage, you'll get more out of it. for me it was more philosophical than anything. as a cabin crew member the nerdy side of me enjoyed that it took place on a plane.
They add sensory aspects where you actually feel like the plane is moving (very realistic actually).
I really enjoyed it for its creativity, method of telling the story and the effort I saw that went into putting this together. I personally think it is worth the experience.

Honestly not worth the money or time. A cool concept for sure just didn’t feel immersive at all or anything. I appreciate the idea but definitely needs more work put into it. Spend your £12 on Foil Hog and Arms

Not worth 12p let alone 12 quid. Complete twaddle and a genuine rip-off.

If you are like me and are open for new experiences and fun experiments, you probably don't need a review. Just don't get put off by the other mixed reviews.
Maybe the experience feels a little short - that's probably because the time flies by in full immersion (no pun intended).
Yes, the point (morale) of the story can be nailed down to one sentence (which is said out loud), yet it's the full package it is delivered in that makes me ponder.

An immersive, multisensory airplane flight in utter darkness. A meditation on the Schrödinger's cat experiment from the perspective of the cat. Any voyage could end in another universe. Five stars.

Don’t go. Very boring. Nothing happens.

We read the positive and negative reviews and thought we'd give it a chance. Honestly, very underwhelming. One cool moment where it looks like you're on a much bigger plane but that was literally 3 seconds.

This show oversold and under delivered. Borderlines on boring. Dont bother wasting your money. Spend £13 on an actual flight somewhere.

That’s 30 minutes and £12 I won’t get back. Completely pointless waste of time. Talk about false advertising. Wish we’d read the other reviews before wasting money on this.

The experience was unusual and immersive. I have a fear of flying, yet this was an enjoyable experience.
You are in complete darkness most of the time, and you aren't sat beside your friends as an FYI. This adds to the horror aspect (by removing comfort), which is a positive for me.
They could improve by adding more immersive elements and making it longer.
I would say this is a good to try out and a good price for the length of it, as it does seem to go by quite quick, but perhaps that was because i was enjoying it. Would recommend.

Very boring 20 minutes. No organisation. No plot or story. Overall too expensive and wanted to leave half way through.
Anita 30 days ago
A bit boring, if I'm being honest. You're sitting in the dark for 20 minutes, listening to odd, muffled chatter that tries to be thought provoking. Not worth it. I'm glad I got it on the 241 days. Absolutely not worth full price.

This is technically very clever with the binaural audio really creating a soundscape around you. And on a rainy evening it was nice to sit in a warm, dark seat for half an hour - I could have stayed there twice as long. But, really, there isn't a lot going on. Whispered comments about planes crashing, or not crashing, don't really mean much. At least, I didn't think so - perhaps I was missing something fundamental.
So, if you have nothing else to do for half an hour and want a comfy seat, go for it. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to buy a cup of tea from the cafe next door.

While ARCADE had an interesting choose-your-own-adventure narrative, Flight…. left a lot to be desired. The binaural audio has some chilling moments, but for the most part was just overwhelmingly LOUD. I found myself not feeling immersed, but overwhelmed, and had to take my headphones off for a portion of the experience. Some cool lighting effects, but a bit of a letdown after how much I enjoyed ARCADE.

Genuinely underwhelmed by this, but the darkness of the experience was cool - the main good parts was the spookiness at the beginning. It was also nearly impossible to hear the aisle audio, and I’d assumed for most of the experience that my headphones were broken until I occasionally heard something in my right ear. This show is a premise without a real plot

Was so looking forward to this but was seriously underwhelmed. Set up leads you down a path that this is going to be really impressive but once it goes dark the seats just vibrate a bit & there is a lot of muffled noise in the headphones - it was all over before it had started. Twelve pounds is a lot of money for 20 minutes of very little.

Previously saw Séance which was brilliant so was looking forward to this (and Arcade was sold out). I appreciated the aesthetic of the cabin and the intriguing premise but, as others have said in these reviews, the story content and sound design was disappointing. The audio was echoey so didn’t immerse you as if it was all happening in the container, and a narrative was pretty non-existent. A couple of moments made me think it was going somewhere but not very impressive all in all, unfortunately.

It's a complete waste of money and time. Put some sleep mask on your eyes and shout a bit—that will give you the experience of the show. The apparent depth was to come from the cat's point of view in the Schroedinger's cat paradox. Give me a break and my money back!

Visceral and absolutely terrifying. I can’t say I enjoyed this experience, but I was absolutely blown away by the quality of it. Highly recommend going, but give yourself some time to process afterwards

First time for this and I had good expectations, clever concept, great setup... But I felt it could have been so much more. Nice to have experienced but it was neither scary or fun...a slight non-event... But could be great if the story was developed

This was my second time at this experience and it never fails to impress!
A true thrilling, horror experience that defies what your brain can do when given a set of binaural headphones and plunged into the darkness. A great storyline and the technology really brings it home to make you question how they achieved it within such a tiny space!
Must try if you’re happy to be in darkness for a little while!
