Description

Have you ever thought about your dad's cock at a funeral? If so, you'd probably dismiss it. But what if your brain couldn't do that? After a shitshow of a shag, Jo must hide a stain, a semi-naked man, and her terrifying intrusive thoughts from Anna, before she loses everything. When being queer goes from one of many intrusive thoughts to a real feeling, how do you know what’s true, or intrusive? If you can’t trust your own thoughts, what can you trust? Flicker is a modern-day sex farce exploring Pure OCD, created through consultation with OCD UK.

Powerful farce - comedy about ocd!

Amy Macleod 14 days ago

Flicker is incredibly funny and dark, and beautifully highlights the stuggles and stigma of someone with OCD. The characters are all flawed and lovable and you're sucked into the drama from the moment it begins. Poignant and hilarious - this deserves to be seen.

Threads the needle between depicting a mental condition such as (pure) OCD in a respectful light while still being able to create a funny sitcom-style drama out of it. All three actors were on top of their game and the whole 50 minutes flew by.

My partner and I both have OCD which manifests in different ways, and it was interesting and moving to see the ways we were both represented in this play.

Such a good representation of a stigmatised form of OCD. Brilliantly done and so good to feel less alone with the taboo thoughts. Worth every penny

This play has you falling in love with every single character. The comedy is flawless, the story is innovative and truthful, and the actors are experts at their craft. Go and see this show!!!

Extremely funny dark comedy! Bringing humanity to a topic that could easily be demonised. The actors comedic timing was a masterclass.

5/5.
Far and away the best representation of OCD ever produced for the stage, and possibly for any entertainment medium. As someone who has suffered with OCD for well over a decade, Flicker was the most life-affirming vindication of the mental horrors that many of us have to face every single day. Framed within the outrageously hilarious format of a sex-comedy, the show deftly blends humour with a respectful and entirely accurate presentation of OCD and how it manifests without becoming flippant or shallow. This is one of those very rare Edinburgh Fringe shows that you actually, genuinely HAVE to see.

This was the first of 29 shows I saw at the Fringe and turned out to be my favourite. It is a typical fringe theatre production – an hour long, minimal cast and set - but far exceeded what is normally delivered in those constraints. There was a satisfyingly full story with the script perfectly timed in dropping new revelations which engaged you further, and it was genuinely hilarious, filthy and sensitive, a hard combination to pull off. Each character was likeable despite the conflicts that existed between them. It also raises awareness of a condition little known to the greater public, where as most shows with an issue at their heart are are often preaching to the converted and pre-educated. I'm not sure I've seen a play like this that managed to achieve so much, definitely worth a viewing, thank you so much for a highly enjoyable and moving show.

Laugh out loud comedy about a very important topic. Heartbreaking in moments as Jo's life looks like it is going off the deep end. Not to be missed!

You feel like you’ve found gold when watching Flicker: three sensational new actors performing hilarious new writing from an actor-comedienne-writer that we’ll surely be seeing on stages for decades to come- this debut is important, fresh and brave. Direction by Zoe Templeman Young (who seems to slowly be popping up alongside every nuanced new work) adds a musicality and fluency to an already well timed script, and gives us the freedom to connect to and breathe with the characters amongst the farsical chaos *****

A fantastic show, a script that perfectly manages to balance the hilarious and the sensitive all brilliantly supported by 3 very strong performances. Highly recommend for anyone at the Fringe this year!

Flicker is one of the most powerful productions I’ve ever seen. It gave me a greater understanding of Pure OCD. It was hilarious, heart breaking and incredibly important. The cast and the writing were 10/10. It’s one you won’t want to miss.

Such an important show. I have never seen a depiction of OCD so honest and so accurate. It faces the complex struggles of intrusive thoughts head on and inviting empathy and acceptance to their audience members (with our without OCD). The performances were incredible. Funny, fun, though-provoking, and heart-warming. Please go see this show!

Flicker was a fabulous show that displayed incredible new writing and wonderful acting! Credit to the entire cast and crew for putting on such a fantastic, funny and thought provoking play. It’s a must see at fringe!!

It’s brilliant. As someone with OCD I was stunned by how raw and honest this show is, and have never seen a portrayal quite like it. It really struck a chord with me and I found it both deeply relatable and hysterically funny. The actors are excellent and Gaby’s writing is genius!!!

Hannah Lyne 30 days ago

Incredible from start to finish. Raunchy, raucous and laugh out loud. Outrageous moments are sandwiched by poignant reflections on mental illness and a complete loss of control of one’s psyche. Not one to miss.

This play has truly got everything!! It’s funny, dynamic, educational, moving and delves into hugely important topics that are not spoken about enough. It’s so unique! You will have laugh out loud reactions, you will gasp, you may even shed a tear. NOT to be missed!!!

India Dillon 31 days ago

Such a dynamic, exciting, clever, and deeply thoughtful piece. The writing walks the line between hilarious and emotional so beautifully and the performers do themselves and the piece so much justice. Definitely not one to miss!

Josh Hogan 32 days ago

This was absolutely brilliant. So cleverly written and engagingly performed; the whole thing just ran like a fantastically absurd steam train.
Amazing performances.
Can’t recommend it enough!

Flicker is brilliant, hilarious and touching. Flicker synthesizes the chaotic comedy of a Faulty Towers and Bard-like perspectives of human well-being and relationships. Let Flicker shed some light and laughs on you.

Rebecca Fortnum 32 days ago

This show is throughly recommended. It combines a look at the tough issue of intrusive thoughts and mental health with hilarious farce. It’s fast paced and brilliantly acted. One of the most thought provoking shows you’ll see at the fringe this year!

It is bewildering, frightening, compelling, and repellent, and the play’s originality resides in its ability to navigate this spectrum with humour and sensitivity.
