Fire Ignites (****)
This short show has an Iranian you woman demonstrate in several scenes the plight of lesbians and women in general in Iran. The scenes run from a hidden lesbian’s homelife to songs of protest written by actress to her burning her hajab in public and then suffering beatings and imprisonment. Each scene has a searing sincerity with an occasional real tear.

This is 46th most enjoyable show of the 156 shows I have seen so far at the Fringe this year. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: https://fringefan.com/

Tara is a talented young lady that created her own show. The show awakens different feelings, as many as the different characters she interprets.
Moving, strong, complex, delicate...highly recommended.

Interesting subject matter portrayed in a sensitive way. This show needs further development but was worth spending half an hour at if you have some spare time.

The play moves seamlessly through the women’s monologues and is broken up by interpretive dance and original songs, demonstrating the depth of emotion and pain the characters feel, whilst making the performance delightfully immersive.

This show is a remarkable combination of fine writing, which grabs your attention with its engaging naturalistic style, along with the stunning versatile acting of Tara Tedjarati, who plays all the characters as she takes us through the troubled world of women’s oppression in Iran. It will be a long time before I forget the fierce expression in her eyes as she urged the world to change.

I found this an enlightening experience: there are statistics that one can look up online, but that is no substitute for hearing a very personal story, told through song and dance as well as spoken word. An ambitious production with plenty of heart.

The show leaves you with a greater understanding of the frustrations and determination of the protesters. And the plaintive message and melody of A Fire Ignites, This is Me will haunt you all day.
