Description
A series of interconnected playlets describe life in German in the 1930s, dramatising the suspicion and anxiety experienced by ordinary people as Hitler grew to power. A growing distrust between friends and colleagues and even of their own family members affects everyone, exposing Nazi terror. We know the results, what we are looking for is the beginning. Brecht's picture of the breakdown of normal relationships under the Nazis is not only of historical interest, but emotionally transfixing, and may serve as a cautionary tale to fascism today. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. This was great, I’d not seen this performed before and the playlets selected, the order of performance plus the use of some modern audio and video footage was nicely done - not ramming anything home but with all that’s going on right now in UK we don’t need it to be the parallels are sadly clear.
Such a hopeful and confronting message and so clever - so chilling to think Brecht first had this performed in 1938 before war even broke out. Then to read after that this is a school theatre group from the States - Wow!! So impressive. The women who played the German mum worrying that her son may be a spy, and the woman playing the Jewish Wife scenes were just especially incredible. There are moments of audience interaction , I won’t say more, but I was involved in one at the end and I found the emotions it generated very powerful. Good luck to these young stars!

What a terrific performance. The first and last scene were really impressive, I thought. I had goosebumps on the first scene. On the last scene, many people were moved to tears. They really tuned up the intensity in the end. One slight criticism: where I was sitting (6th/7th row on the left) some of the actors were a bit hard to understand.
Special shoutout to the actress who played Judith who I thought was just exceptional.
