Description
The original detective story. Two women are found brutally murdered in their Parisian home in the Rue Morgue – one virtually decapitated, the other thrust up a chimney. The police are baffled by the apparent lack of any possible egress by the killers and strange voices heard just after the blood-curling screams of the women. The lack of motive – not for the murders themselves but for the savage nature of the crime – leads them to arrest an innocent man. C August Dupin steps in to investigate the seemingly impossible events. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. ***** 5 Stars!! This show was without a doubt the highlight of my Fringe. The portrayal of Dupin in particular was magnificent - I am gutted I caught it on the last day of the run as seeing it again would be a joy. The lack of props and scenery only serve to heighten the descriptions and fully immerse the audience in Poe's world and, as a Poe specialist, it was a joy to see his work presented faithfully, without gimmick, and his characters brought to life upon the stage. An absolute triumph - I will be keeping my eye out for further productions.

★★★☆☆
GOOD
* A multitude of characters. Masterfully portraying multiple engaging personalities.
* Poe-etic Fidelity. The play was an enacted reading of the story, just like Poe imagined it.
NOT SO GOOD
* A Bit Too Faithful. Those who have read the nearly 200-year-old tale will only get to hear it again.
* Threadbare Stage. In a setting so sparse, our actors almost ventured into audiobook territory.

A well-produced drama, excellent cast of two. Held the audience for the full 50 minutes.

An Edgar Allan Poe classic told by a duo who portray the main protagonists with some enthusiasm. Especially the Dupin …he also acts out the interviewees in this grotesque French Classic that probably influenced the creator of Sherlock Holmes. The similarities are evident.
Enjoyed this show.

Really enjoyed this two man show! The story is told with a humour and lots of changes of character, each one of which is convincing. From 12 to 80 years old, our family all agreed that this show was excellent and a lot of fun.

A marvellous two-man performance of the original master detective. Very impressed by the quick changes between characters.
