Description

David Greig’s 2010 sequel to Macbeth. The tyrant is dead. Siward and the English army arrive to install the rightful king in Dunsinane and bring peace to Scotland. But Scotland is more complex than anticipated, and it’s so cold. Seduced by Macbeth’s powerful widow, Siward’s attempts to restore order and his vision of sense and justice to a war-ravaged land prove futile; he finds himself increasingly isolated in this contradictory country. Will the grieving ever be finished? This amateur production of Dunsinane is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk

I read this play years ago, but had never seen a production. So glad I got to see, Dunsinane, come to life by this talented cast and creatives. Humor and heartbreak with wonderful performances all around in this sequel of the Scottish Play. Loved the incorporation of Gaelic in speak and in song.

Every single performance by each member of the cast was spellbinding and electric. I’ve seen this play when it opened (twice actually as I love the poetry and passion of the script) so I couldn’t resist seeing this particular performance. Honestly it’s the best show I’ve seen by far in the festival simply due to the quality of each performance and every minute of it had me on the edge of my seat. Will definitely book other shows by this acting troupe. What a tour de force by a magnificent group of actors. They were simply astonishing in their versatility and charisma as they took on different roles and made you believe in that moment in history. I agree with other reviewers, I was astonished and impressed and spellbound by this group of actors.

The company must be tbanked for staging this rarely performed 'sequal" to Macbeth. The play is visceral and thought-provoking, and the cast and production give it space to breathe. The continuity of.actors from their Macbeth, particularly Lady M and Macduff works so well with strong performances, and all the cast are accomplished.

This play was a fantastic surprise. It had everything: an intriguing take as a sequel to one of Shakespear's classic plays, a wonderful combination of tragedy, comedy and historical-based story telling, in a classic Festival venue. Quite lengthy but, as the plot develops, one is well distracted as you are immersed in the narrative as it unfolds towards its surprising conclusion. So much so that I wished there was yet a further sequel to this fascinating story.
My reason for this positive feedback is solely due to the tremendous efforts of the highly enthusiastic cast. An obvious mixture of experienced and new actors, they did real justice to the original play with particular mentions in dispatches to those who played the main protagonists Gruach, King Malcolm, Siward and The Boy Soldier. In each case I felt that they truly captured the emotional essence and depth of their particular character throughout the play as it evolved.
They were also very well supported by the other main characters and supporting actors. All of them doing credit to the evening's performance. Congratulations also to the producer and director who have done a sterling job bringing this together.
Overall, I would highly recommend this very intriguing and memorable play.
Thanks also to the whole cast for a very enjoyable evening.

WHAT...A...PLAY!!!
Scottish actors performing a Scottish play by a Scottish writer with parts in Gaelic, it doesn't get more authentic.
I loved every bit of this extremely high quality performance. Easy worth 50 quid.
It has everything great music, humour, drama, customs, effects and more. A must see!

We stumbled on this show after watching a great Macbeth earlier in the same venue. Soon as we discovered the same cast were also doing the ‘sequel’ each night as well, we were intrigued. So glad we came back the next night for this! Never heard of the play before (though I’d vaguely heard of David Greig the writer), it wasn’t what we were expecting at all - all in modern English, loads of comedy, blood, swearing - it had the lot! Genuinely powerful, funny and heartbreaking at different times, with amazing music and costumes - a full production, not just a regular 60-minute Fringe show (though it did wrap up maybe 15 mins earlier than advertised). Every year we pick a few random shows - we’re so glad this was one of them this year. Loved it - and great to see a bunch of performers clearly enjoying being onstage together. We don’t often leave reviews but this one’s worth it! No idea how accurate the story is … but with a show like this, who cares?!

Fabulous and entertaining play. A great combination of drama and humour with amazing actors, customs and music.

I very much can recommend the combination of both Macbeth and Dunsinane. It has the same actors for the overlapping roles making this a unique experience.

Macbeth was just the warm up for this spectacular show and a real treat to demonstrate the talents of all involved. The runtime flew by as I became more and more invested in the characters. The balance of humour and tragedy was delivered well and the production quality from costumes, props to the music and lighting was a step above. A theatre company to keep an eye on go see it!

A bold and welcome way to revive Greig’s Dunsinane, which reveals itself to be every bit as relevant as it was when it was last seen, at the Lyceum in 2013.
