Description
A hilarious, heartfelt and compelling coming-of-age homage to the 80s. Brought up on a diet of Coronation Street, Middlesbrough FC and Elvis, can 12-year-old Mike resist the flamboyance of a decade that gave us Kajagoogoo, Boy George and A Flock of Seagulls? Hot on the heels of last year's A Slice of Elvis, gulp down delicious and generous spoonfuls of 80s nostalgia: authentic, hilarious and, best of all… completely true. Expect an hour of laughs, over-the-top toe-tappers, shoulder pads and painful memories of youth. Because aren’t we all a little bit of a… Drama Chameleon? Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. A dark and dingy room within an old Edinburgh pub venue and you are meant to be having fun - how does that possibly work?
Over to Mike McAlpine who fantastically will transport you to the more innocent early eighties of truly memorable music, stagecraft, dance moves and not a few amazing contemporary impressions.
History, comedy, pathos, participation and real audience engagement turn your early lunch hour into 60 minutes of escape.
Go, engage, reflect and enjoy and leave your £thanks£ in the hat (or the card machine) ;-)

After last year's knockout Elvis show I was excited to return. Oh boy it surpassed my expectations. From comedy, to pathos to musical acuity, Mike gave us an hour of pure brilliance and delight. Please come back next year and do the nineties !!!!

This guy provided a real story of a show taking me back to when I was a lot younger growing up in the 80’s. So glad I took the family to see it. We were in tears with nostalgia. Great voice too singing various memorable 80s numbers.
We’ve seen him before in a very funny Elvis show; I wonder what he’ll do next year???!!!
He said it’s his final show tomorrow Sunday so try and go if you’re in Edinburgh. You won’t regret it.

Loved it. You can just tell that Mike is a lovely person - he exudes warmth throughout his show. Yet, he throws himself full force into the colourful characters he plays, the skits, the singing (great voice) AND the dancing! His impersonations - an I impressive dialogue between Paul McCartney and John Lennon and a hysterical Trump monologue. Interspersed with poignancy and and a gentle love story. Not to be missed.

What a lovely way to start my day. Such a wonderful story of first love woven with songs and fun. Mike is a very talented performer and we were on the back row clapping and singing along. With clever puns, jokes and fabulous costumes, this genuinely feel good show is for anyone that remembers the 80s or wonders what they were like. This ageing Goth loved it.

A lovely, funny voyage through the 1980's as seen through the eyes of youth. When it was ALL about your music and style tribe. He's funny, he dances and he's got a moving end. That goes for his rear too. Loved it. Good to sing along to.

Full of references to the 80’s which resonated with me! Intimate venue, a bit early in the day, but well worth getting up for.

Hilarious and engaging, full of references to the music I grew up listening to my parents playing, with a moving storyline too. I recommend

What a blast! Ok, I was a teenager in the 80s, went regularly to The Kirk and was (am) best pals with his brother, but Mike’s journey through the sounds, sights, mistakes and joys of the 80s is one not to miss. Go and treat yourself

Great journey back in time to so many 80s memories! Mike‘s dancing, singing and storytelling is sooo funny and entertaining. Not the typical slapstick kind of comedy, but a very personal, physical-comedy-driven and authentic humour. Utterly enjoyed it! Could totally imagine what it must have been like growing up in a tiny village in the 80s.
