Description

Dominic Frisby presents a lecture (with funny bits) about the extraordinary history of mining. From cavemen with pickaxes to modern-day excavators, humans have been mining metal since the Bronze Age. Entire nations have been built on the backs of mining booms. Discover how digging stuff up changed everything. This talk is the motherlode.

Dominic's lectures have become our traditional opener to the Edinburgh Fringe. Always interesting, witty, engaging and set in a beautiful building. This one was no different. Who knew how Mark Twain got his name!
A must see show.

Excellent lecture by Dominic in top form: charasmatic, fascinating and a twist of humour. If only all Fringe shows were this satisfying!

Enjoyed this talk covering mining (minerals more so than coal) from various angles- historical, economic, geopolitical, human and even ecological. Regular Frisby audiences will see the connections with his previous talks on gold and non-metric measure.

Absolutely fascinating, wonderfully presented in a beautiful setting. Dominic Frisby wears his learning easily and communicates easily with an audience. His research and the great illustration of his examples would you keep you in your seat all day. History / humour / learning / charm. If you didn't know you were interested in mining, you will be after this. You're at Fringe to try something different, let this be one of the things, you'll come out feeling smarter.

This man could make a shopping list fun and interesting! Another year, another topic - who would have thought that mining could be this interesting and entertaining? Great location - Panmure House is well worth a visit.
