Description

Part performance lecture, part auto-fictional gay memoir, discover this free-wheeling metatheatrical exploration of love through history, art, literature, music, and science by internationally acclaimed Franco-Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco (Thebes Land). Sound clever? It is! Interweaving Sergio's first experiences of love with his boxing instructor, the story of Francis Bacon's doomed romance with George Dyer, and an eye-opening journey through the history of love, enjoy this life-affirming new work from one of international theatre's most unique voices. Performed by multi-award winning director, Daniel Goldman, don't miss this new 'collaboration to savour' by 'two masters of the form' (Lyn Gardner).

Beautifully written and expertly performed. The simplistic staging of a single person reading his essays leaves room for introspection and lets the mind wonder to picture all the places mentioned and really, really listen and feel what the author has learned about love from experience and art. The text and performance is an intimate look what literature and art can mean or do for us, how they enrich our lives and bring us closer to the emotions and worldviews of people however remote in space or history due to the universal feelings shared. I found it a truly moving and impressive show that I will keep thinking about!

This show is already over but I wanted to say how much I loved it, how simple and beautiful it was, and inspiring, and creative, and honest, and exactly what literature, art, performance should be. It will stay with me forever, I think.

Good content, but 'stagecraft' pretty much absent - just a guy reading an essay. Also, v narrow conception of love, what about love of kids, food etc?

This deliberately steady and modest delivery of an acclaimed playwright's 30 notes on love builds into a compelling and expansive spoken word show. Long-time collaborator Daniel Goldman comes out of a 20-year acting hiatus to deliver this gem of creativity to treasure. DON'T MISS IT!

Brilliant writing, extremely well performed. There's no denying it's cerebral, but funny nonetheless and certainly the most intelligent show I've seen at the Fringe this year. Only playing a few more days… Don't miss it unless you're only interested in over the top hijinks.

My favourite show so far. Deeply engaging summary of love in its various forms. Totally absorbing.
