Description

The Disappeared – A wild, fun and sexy burlesque cabaret that tells the true story of a queer Latinx voice robbed of their freedom and forced into exile during a government coup in South America. Experience first hand a final night of joy and freedom of expression, before the Chilean government regime change challenges the country's LGBTQIA+ community and robs them of their personal freedom and identity. Witness the last cry of hope from an oppressed community before joining the ranks of those who have been disappeared.

A stunning show beautifully created, telling tough stories through art, cabaret, drag. It’s both joyous and uplifting and devastating. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I saw it.

One of the highlights of the Fringe.

Nova has a presence that means it is impossible to take your eyes off him when he is onstage.

The story is told well, with style, sympathy and humour.

I will be looking out for more from this company.

A quite astonishing show. Truly beautiful, a stunning, enormous venue that has every inch of space covered, an utterly virtuoso performance from Nova. If ever the phrase ‘immersive’ was appropriate for a show it’s this one.

It really is the best thing we’ve ever seen at the fringe, and we are very experienced here. Dozens of shows every year for many years so that’s no idle statement.

You won’t see anything else this are the fringe. I’m dumbstruck how complete this show was. Taking you from deep sorrow at the events described, to utter joy. A soliloquy about nonbinary energy near the start, was a particular highlight, but then really any one of the three main acts would be good enough for a truly expectational fringe show.

One caveat is that we seem to have caught the only show that was at night. I’m not sure why this has been programmed for the afternoon but I think the night would suit it much much more. Everyone including Nova was drinking at the night-time one we experienced enough I think did add a lot to the vibe. But if anyone can utterly captivate an audience at any time of day it would be Nova.

The most enthusiastic recommendation I’ve maybe ever made for a Fringe show.

A beautiful, poignant and captivating show. Thank you for creating something so fabulous and beautiful from something so devastating.

I went to see Nova's WONDERFUL performance on Tuesday 6th of August. At first I was drawn to it because it mentioned Chile, burlesque, and the LGBTQIA community, and am always excited to see Latine performers. I have to say it exceeded my expectations greatly! Nova's way of leading the audience, captivating us with their joy, moves, and way of making the environment safe when interacting with us is amazing. Also, the reclaiming of Queer Latine enby bodies and showing how sometimes the pain mixes with the joy of community had me going from laughter to tears and back to laughter, and reminded me how healing the performing arts, especially storytelling, can be. The live music performed by both Nova and Josh are captivating. I don't want to give more away, I just recommend you don't miss The Disappeared, please do yourself the favour of going!

A truly beautiful piece of theatre. Flamboyant & edgy at the outset quickly moving to something deeper & much darker. A story that needs to be told & seen. Recommended

Beautiful, sexy and enchanting.
What looks superficial and simple fun at first slowly turns into something more and more political. In the end you are left open mouthed and with so much food for thought. An excellent show.

Beautiful, heartbreaking, celebratory, devastating, sexy, exposed. Nova (duh) and Yosh have the a Hedwig-esque cabaret that is all and none at once, like all good enbies are. This show delicate as marigold; as a stone wall. Go with the flow.

The Disappeared is unlike anything else at the Fringe. Visually magnificent and purposeful, it feels like a different world to the one on the outside of the theatre doors. It really feels like South America.
