Was really looking forward to this show as we love The Big Yin - Billy Connolly. What a disappointment as the stories/reflections were very repetitive, not at all funny and not strong enough to capture the audience. Admired the memory of Gary McNair remembering the anecdotes and the musicians were very good - but overall only one star because of the rambling nature of the performance. Was very glad when the performance was cut short by a bomb scare and subsequent offer of a refund from Assembly Rooms; although several of the audience members had walked out before then. Would not recommend wasting your money to buy a ticket for this show.⭐️

1* only. If you've booked this show, think twice about going, you'll thank me. Sound was too quiet. Content was quick and confusing and definitely not funny. Shame as we're big fans of Billy Connolly. Spoke to others as we were leaving and many thought the same.

Unfunny, cynical cash grab. The best bit about the show was the bomb scare that ended it half way through.

Want advice? Give this one a body swerve!!! Truly awful from beginning to end. Unfunny, unendearing and unnecessary. Backing singer and guitarist were good. Did not end a moment too soon ☹️

This was a hugely disappointing show. The stories are repetitive, they are not funny, there is nothing Billy Connelly about them. The writer makes the mistake of confusing himself with Billy Connelly. It is far too long and it is in the wrong venue. There is no hint of intimacy in what is being shared. A real shame.

This is a beautiful and unique tribute to Billy Connolly from those who hold him most dear - the Scottish people. The re-enactment of real interviews of ordinary folk talking about the The Big Yin is so well done and never strays into cheesy tribute act/impersonations territory. Sometimes very funny and others genuinely moving, Gary McNair weaves together a tapestry of characters that both of us felt would stay with us for a long time to come.
The music and vocals were beautifully performed and did well to provide a subtle musical backdrop to the stories being told.
The only negative was the sound. It was difficult to hear Gary for a good while at the start, improving slightly as the show went on. Thankfully we could hear well enough for the majority of the show to really enjoy it.
I can’t agree with any of the negative reviews. Maybe they’re just the kind of people who’d turn down a flump.

I loved this. It really was as much about the brilliant people who gave their memories/thoughts as it was about Billy Connolly. Harrd to put into words what the big yin means to us, but by the end of the show I felt we'd come pretty close. Such talented and genuine delivery of those memories too. Loved it. If people went along just expecting funny jokes, I think they were missing the point...definitely some flump phobics amongst these reviews

We were really looking forward to this show but it was a big disappointment. Although the cast are very talented and performed well it was just tedious and not funny enough. Actually got boring. Too long, need smaller venue and rewrite.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews - we thought this was a tour-de-force of a performance, and a really moving tribute. Plenty of humour, some very touching stories, and a lovely way to honour a national treasure. The vast majority of the audience seemed to enjoy it.

Booked this show on a whim and wished we hadn’t. Although the acting and singing were amazing, very quickly into the performance, the second hand accounts of encounters with the Big Yin felt repetive and consequently quite dull. If you are looking for a good laugh at the Festival this, in my opinion, is not the show for you.

Been going to the Festival for at least 20 years and this is the worst show I have ever seen. A proper con at £21 per ticket and did not do justice to my memories of Billy Connolly. It would have been better to have asked the audience for their memories rather than the repetition of more or less the same answer to the question. Some of us were even around when Billy started out and have followed him over the years. The music content of the show was excellent, the singer's voice beautiful.

This show is not funny. If you enjoy listening to Glaswegians saying how well they knew Billy Connely you might enjoy it, otherwise give it a miss. The girl singer has a lovely voice. If only she had sung more of Billy's songs e.g. I wish I was in Glasgow, Mother.

He is a consummate performer and you can feel the passion he has for Billy and the voices of the people of Scotland and the audience in this sold-out show—loved it.
