Description

A surreal journey about reconciling with grief through the natural world. Jesse returns to the cottage he grew up in with a photo and cardboard box. The land is just as he left it, and his grandmother is brash as ever, but why did it take him so long to come back? Dead Animals uses vibrant soundscapes and fast dialogue to awaken nature and transport us the muckiest four miles in all of Canada. From award-winning Canadian playwright Jesse Stong comes a lively and heartwarming new play about returning to the place we left our loved ones.

A great little play, with some lovely funny moments. Really appreciated some of the nice little touches - the body language, the costumes, the rapport between actors. Very enjoyable and thought provoking.

An emotional and touchingly funny trip into a dream world seeped in real grief, guilt and love. Three beautiful performances: Dale Robertson as Jesse, trying to make sense of a torrent of memories; Michelle Huirama as Carol, loving, funny, grouchy, trying to hold fast to her own memories; and Luke McCarthy as the Raccoon, spirit guide, trickster or sharp corner boy. The chemistry between the cast is amazing and pulls you into this atmospheric world.

Thoroughly appreciate the effort gone into this production. It transforms you into this surreal world through fantastic characters and the most visually pleasing set I’ve seen out of all the shows I’ve seen

Absolutely loved this play. I went into another world and it provoked some thoughtful feelings about love and grief and what family means. The set and sound was magical, the script was weird but fantastic and the acting was very professional. Would definitely recommend - amazing show and company.

I feel really bad leaving this review, because everyone tries so hard, but I was filled with dread when I realized I was stuck in the very very small theatre where this was showing. The script is awful, confusing, and (at best) utterly uninteresting. The acting is not good, and I'm sad about the hour of my life I'm not getting back.
