Description
‘What is the good?’ Philosophy student Emily McCoy wants to know… Thrust into a terrifying world of thought experiments and moral dilemmas, she must navigate both the voices in her head, and the eccentric characters she meets. But through her attempts to discover the nature of humankind, she ventures towards madness and inescapable panic over the metaphysical. Underscored by Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Tom Stoppard’s comic yet thought-provoking script is a witty exploration of themes and questions from the record. Darkside is a thrilling way to experience this iconic album like never before! Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Fabulous interweaving of physical theatre and a powerfully told story. The dance element was beautifully performed and the blend of genres was seamlessly done. A must-see!

One of my favourite shows of the Fringe and a must for any Pink Floyd fans, Tom Stoppard fans, modern dance fans or just people with an ounce of compassion. The themes of Stoppard’s play fit well with those of Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, which provides the soundtrack for the show, and the narrative is interspersed by lyrical dance sections to some of the longer instrumental passages. The increasing focus on fragile mental health makes the whole performance especially poignant towards the end. GO SEE IT!!!

I was worried that Tom Stoppard might be impenetrable at this time of night, but my attention was engaged throughout by the shadowy world of moral philosophy. Talented young actors, with powerful contemporary dance interludes ensuring the pace was maintained throughout. Highly recommended as long as you are not expecting a Pink Floyd singalong like the bewildered German visitors next to me.

Genuinely incredible. The best theatre I’ve seen this whole fringe. The movement with the music is utterly beautiful. The cast is insanely talented. The direction is so slick and cool. Catch this while you can - I can’t wait to see other stuff this company do!

Whilst I may be a Pink Floyd fan and a contemporary dancer, you absolutely do not have to fit those niches to enjoy this gem of a show! The performances were spectacular, and the choreography was beautiful and really fitting to the soundtrack (Money was a personal fave!). Do not miss your chance to see this show.

As a lifelong fan of Pink Floyd and with Dark Side Of The Moon being one of the greatest albums ever made, I was very pleased to see the brilliant way that the music was interpreted within the play. The acting was superb, especially the leading lady. The dancing was superbly choreographed and performed. It's so good to know that such timeless music is being used by young actors of such excellence. Really well done guys!

Originally put this on Twitter, but I have hardly any followers, so probably more useful here (even if probably too late as the run ends on the 17th). For the record, I saw this on the 12th....
I was burned out from a long day & considered binning off #Darkside by @HotCatColl, but holy hell am I glad I did not. An examination of big picture ethics through the prism (ha!) of the Dark Side of the Moon album with a Tom Stoppard script. So a big hook, but mainly I was absolutely blown away by the lead actress (research tells me she is Gillian something) who is just phenomenal - I mean so, so good. The physicality, the emotion, the desperation and despair (much of it while performing challenging choreography) was breathtaking. This is only on until the 17th, but if you fancy a late night that doesn't involve booze and boorishness, but rather thoughtful theatre, dance, and Pink Floyd, then I will heartily recommend.

A thought provoking interpretation of Floyd’s Darkside by Tom Stoppard. Relatively recent radio play from 2013. Loved the imaginative dance routines and actors appearing from the audience. Late show? Not really. Back to our accommodation by 00.50. Do go and see this. You won’t be disappointed.

Terrific blend of a clever script about the theories and foibles of moral philosophy, threaded to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". I'm not normally a big fan of modern dance, but the cast blends the well-choreographed movement into the story pretty seamlessly, so it's a win.
Overall, highly recommended as a witty way to end a day at Fringe, with great music in the deal.

I cannot recommend this show highly enough! Consistently slick and engaging acting across the ensemble cast, interspersed with impressive and moving dancing sections that transformed a threateningly tedious script into a fabulous late night watch! 5 stars!!

Tom Stoppard and Pink Floyd - what a draw.
Having said that the ensemble cast were tremendous and the show has great empathy, wit and thoughtfulness. Not normally a dance person, but the movement pieces were absolutely fabulous and added to the atmosphere of the play brilliantly.
Highly recommended.

We went to this show because the director flyered us just before it started with the insane promise that if we liked any of: dance, Stoppard, Pink Floyd, moral philosophy, acting or a show that's just about to start then this would be the show for us. We liked at least some of them between us so we went along. It was actually excellent. I had low expectations for the dance sections but they were great. The music is meant to fit with the drama and weirdly it actually did. The acting was consistently good with an excellent cameo from the lighting guy. The worst bit about it was the script which I thought was sort of fine. Nice one Tiggy!

This piece is just remarkable, if you like dancing, theatre, music, intelligent content you wanna think about later and a very good main actress, then go there and enjoy your evening

Beautiful choreo, flawless performances, and timely interpretation of existential questions -- all to the soundtrack of Darkside. This is a joy and a must see!

Darkside is a gorgeous piece of work - surreal, etheral, clever, and funny. The cast are so talented, the dancing is beautiful! A really great late-night show, try and see it if you can!

If you have even a passing interest in Pink Floyd and/or Tom Stoppard you will love the fascinating way in which this radio play has been brought to life. Not even a late performance on a rainy night could dampen the enthusiasm, exuberance and commitment of the cast. Must see.
