Description

Ctrl+Alt+Deceit. The story follows dowdy, kind, trusting, lonely, technologically naïve Aunt June, desperate to connect with her niece Andy. Andy suggests that June fill her time instead by finding friendships online. Grandma lends June a laptop which June discovers only has an “onion” browser installed… Matters take a strange turn when June unwittingly finds herself on the Dark Web and befriending a low-level drug ring, the members of whom June mistakes for cooking and gardening enthusiasts. Set to an upbeat funk/pop score, the story, at its heart, follows the relationship between Andy and June, who share a mother/daughter-like bond.

Really enjoyed this show! The songs and music were quite good. Interesting plot. Kristen Chang and the leads were very good despite issues with the sound system. Nice fringe experience!

Original show.
Well written. Well performed
Didn't expect the wee twist at the end
Well done

The best show I saw during my time at the fringe! An incredible original score brought to life by an incredible cast and band of live musicians. Such a bizarre plot that keeps you laughing even though its heartfelt emotional crux! A must-see for any fans of musicals.

Such a fun and original musical with a talented cast, band, lighting and writer. The vocal ability is impressive and the ability to make everyone laugh goes down a real treat. A true highlight of the Fringe.

Really cleverly written and superbly performed by such a talented cast. The live onstage band played a jazzy funky score which was brilliant and original. Every character shone with witty comedy timing, slick dance moves and fabulous singing. We saw 3 musicals yesterday and this was definitely the best. Highly recommend seeing it.

so much fun!! the performers are all amazing, no weak point and the songs are genuinely all bangers - would love the album

This show is the most fun we had at the Fringe! Five piece live band! Fabulous cast! The music is clever and I loved the shows message which is delivered by five talented actresses. If you see one thing, see this.

Possibly the most bizarre plot for a musical ever! Fantastic upbeat music, excellently performed by the live band, who even joined the cast on stage for a conga at one point! Strong singing, excellent harmonies, great choreography. Five stars.

A great hour's entertainment - high energy from start to finish. A talented young cast with great vocals and a fabulous 5-piece band. Our hearts went out to Auntie June, who was the target of condescending explanations of how to use the Internet and refusal to answer questions on the school day, all of which rang true.

I really enjoyed this show, the singing was fantastic and so was the acting. I particularly enjoyed the music that ran alongside it and would like to make a special mention about the saxophone playing, both as I arrived, and throughout the show. I would strongly recommend everyone goes to see this show for a really entertaining experience.

I loved the show at the first 10 minutes I was lost but after it was amazing great show keep up the good work

By gosh, this show is funny. An absolute laugh-a-minute, Ctrl+Alt+Deceit! takes you under its wing and into its wild world of dark web madness with ease and heaps of absurdity. The music is fantastic and had me bopping in my seat, and every cast member has a gorgeous singing voice and impeccable comedic timing. A special shoutout has to go to Kristen Chang, whose performance and physicality had me absolutely cackling throughout. An absolute must-see to add to your Fringe calendar, this just goes to show what student theatre can achieve.

Great show! Fantastic live band with especially great sax solos, and super strong voices from the whole cast (aunt June was fantastic and the girl playing the dad had amazing lungs) - good funky funny fun.

A very funny and thought provoking show. The cast were very professional with beautiful singing voices. Aunt June was a particular favourite giving Miranda Hart vibes. Grandma was understated with a very dry humour which at first I wasn’t sure about but by the end, loved! The ensemble and band were excellent too and gave me some laugh out loud moments. My first show of this year’s fringe and what a great start!

Very funny show with a great cast.

Such a hilarious show that was evidently put together by a very talented group of people! Really loved everything, from the atmosphere created by the live band, to the way the vocals blended together and the choreography and use of the space. Also shoutout to the phenomenally well-timed pop-culture references of the grandma, she had me giggling through the whole thing!

Ctrl Alt Deceit is a brilliant show! The show was very comedic and was a clear hit with the audience. The live band was a great element and worked well with the music throughout. To use such a difficult and distressing concept to create comedy that is relevant to a younger audience was done well and worked well with the characters. The only issue for the show was the slightly weak storyline/climax. Due to the storyline being based of such a difficult issue, I think the audience would have expected a stronger ending.

Congratulations to the incredible @kristenelena21 on a stellar performance in @ctrlaltdeceit_
Such wonderful comedic prowess and vocal chops for days! This is a super fun exploration of the generational gap & problems of technology with a live jazz band who tore it up onstage. Huge congratulations to the team on a moving performance with great complicite and pizzazz!

Loved this show. Great live band and very talented performers. New musical that you’ll leave with a smile on your face!

Excellent show, very unique concept and well executed by the cast. The band and singing are the highlights of the performance. There was a great plot twist at the end, it would have been even better if they had more time to make the reveal. A great way to spend 50 mins!!

This show was a breath of fresh air. A fantastic, talented and enthusiastic cast and band (great live music) in a cosy venue. The story is funny with some real over-the-top characters with a hilarious plot twist at the end. Some exceptional singing and the score is really great- a funky jazzy upbeat one but with moments of touching raw emotion too.
I would highly recommend going- you will leave with toes tapping, a smile and a warm heart!

Great energy!

Very enjoyable original musical with a very enthusiastic cast.

Few sound issues on the first night (band was louder than the singing a few times!) - but didn't take away from the fun of the show.

Thank you

This show was a blast!! A good mix of comedy and heart, a great choice for anyone wanting to see a musical before it hits west end.

Cynthia 54 days ago

Such a hilarious musical with heartfelt family moments. I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the show! Really takes the “not good with technology” family member (that we all have) to another level in the most delightful and wholesome way. Every actress was incredibly talented in delivering their lines and their singing even during their choreography. They really know how to entertain the audience whether they’re seated in the center or off to the side! The live band was such a wonderful inclusion as well.
