Description

Finally, a musical about gene editing technology! Two struggling genetics researchers are determined to create the world’s first super-soyabean, but a rival lab will stop at nothing to defeat them. Featuring original songs, dance, action-packed battles and shocking twists, Crispr! the Musical is a high-energy romp that will knock your socks off. The creators of NYC’s Hottie Bop, Duane Stanford and Lina Zikas, portray three pairs of characters whose stories converge into a climactic battle of epic – and hilarious – proportions. A stand-out show that will delight anyone who loves to laugh.

Great entertainment - and for PhD students this is a bit close to the bone. Such an energetic performance. The fight scenes were excellent. Not too much science. Well worth it.

Awww this was just delightful! Both performers are dynamic and vibrant, and the energy in this show never stops. It's such a wild silly romp - with bits of science and social commentary packed throughout. The set and staging are so very well done. And the choreo - absolutely top notch! Every line is matched with movement that brings out the drama. The slow motion scene had me laughing in hysterics. Bravo! The standing ovation was very well deserved

The fight choreography is impeccable but the OSHA violations are egregious. Fun whether you have a PhD in genetics or haven't been in a science class since primary school!

Really really great! Definitely recommended. Both great singers, actors and the show is really fun. The show has so much energy - leaves you on a high!

I am not going to lie, I’m rather disappointed. As a scientist, I was expecting much more science for a show that’s main advertisement is around a complex and revolutionary scientific technology. I can completely get why a lot of people enjoyed this. The energy of the two actors is outstanding and the songs are fun and catchy, but, at several times, this musical felt very childish despite having several adult jokes. The promotion of this show very much misrepresents what the musical actually entails. I was very excited to see a show that’s main focus was science, as I love when my passions are combined. Unfortunately for me, this just didn’t hit the mark. That is not to say that you won’t enjoy it, but if you are looking for a performance really centred around science, this isn’t it.

I wasn’t completely sure what was going on all of the time but I had a lot of fun trying to work it out. These two are really talented and there is a lot to enjoy here. This is the sort of show that the fringe is about

Such a brilliant show! Witty, energetic, geeky, so silly but so catchy and so smart at the same time! A must see for any science geeks out there!

This show was the pick of the two teens in our group, one of whom happens to be very interested in gene editing, and, to be honest, the expectations of the rest of us (four adults, all jaded theatre professionals) were low. We were wrong. This show is fantastic--hilarious, unhinged, just a little bawdy, and also brilliantly constructed and performed. And do not sleep on the choreography! We were completely won over, laughed our asses off, and poured out into the Edinburgh evening singing the songs. It was really just an ideal fringe experience and they deserve to sell out the rest of their run.

I am obsessed with this show! A fun, campy, sci-fi musical that made me nonstop laugh throughout! Plus I thought the music was really good and the performers (Duane and Lina) are great comedic performers. Cartoon like in the best possible way!

A must-see! Was completely not expecting what I saw! I think I cracked a rib from laughter! This musical combined a clever story line with catchy music and incredible on-stage action. Even though there were two actors on stage, I fell in love with all six characters. So creative, so energetic, so worth seeing! I’m still smiling about it the next day.

What fun! Our favorite show of the Festival. These two are amazing. So glad we saw Crispr. And hope it gets picked up for further production.

Absolutely loved this show. How can 2 people play 6 characters with such energy?! Maybe it's in their DNA!

Paul Zugnoni 31 days ago

Clever, witty, daring, scrappy, fast high energy show from this brave duo. I was debating going to this one, so glad I did.

Hilarious show with two fantastic performers! My favorite of the Fringe!

Definitely a show I could see getting picked up for Broadway or the West End with a bit of polish. Catchy songs, high energy hijinks, Duane Stanford and Lina Zikas, earn the audience applause.

I wish there was a tad but more hard science for a musical about gene editing, but that's just my science nerd dream.

This was excellent - it was laugh out loud funny. Crazy and kind of nonsensical at times, but in a way that really works. They got a standing ovation at the end of our show!

I really think these crazy kids have something here. It's the kind of weird fun thoughtfulness that makes for surprise hits. The actors worked their asses off and sold it

What CRISPR: The Musical! has taught me (besides why soya beans are crucial in the world of gene editing) is that with talented and committed writers you really can write a musical about anything.

The dual talents of Zikas and Stanford are in plain sight, they have great energy and enthusiasm, and no shortage of clever ideas. This show deserves an audience, even in its current raw state. After all, great musicals are not created overnight, but from tiny seeds….
