It was my great privilege to see Jonathan Salt in his one-man play "Confessions of a Butterfly" in the Ivy Theatre of Greenside@George Street at the Edinburgh Fringe today.
A terrific achievement and a great portrayal of a brave and dedicated man.
If you are in Edinburgh this week, the play is on at 3.30pm every day until Friday, and I would urge you to see it

An utterly moving piece of theatre. Jonathan Salt takes on the role of Janusz Korczak, a remarkable man who was responsible for 200 orphaned children living together in the Warsaw Ghetto. It shows how Korczak successfully created a loving and stable home for these children, despite the horrors taking place outside the orphanage in the Ghetto and beyond. Whilst the story has a tragic ending, it serves a valuable lesson in highlighting the plight of innocent people, especially children, who are still to this day caught up in conflict and face incredible difficulties caused by adult decision-making. Salt’s performance and the set design both helped to tell the story vividly. The show leaves you feeling both reflective and grateful, and should not be missed.

Excellent performance. Very powerful. Portraying a really important and amazing individual, at an incredibly difficult time. Astonishing one person performance for an hour and a half.

An incredible performance by Jonathan Salt who relates the true-life story of jewish paediatrician Janusz Korczak who created a haven of love and security for the children he cared for, while the outside world descended into chaos. This play sends an important message about the need to always keep the children at the forefront of our minds, never moreso than at the present time when the children of Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan remain at the mercy of adult decision-making.
Please see this show *****

This is an extraordinary one person play about a remarkable man whose integrity in the face of appalling evil leads him to show the utmost care and compassion for the many children given into his charge. The acting is wholly believable, drawing the audience into the fascinating inner world of the main character. Thoroughly recommended.
