Clownfish

Comedy (clown)

Description

Maria Tea: Clownfish. A series of sketches born in rush hour. 'My mouth was hanging open. I was eating a fly'. 'I saw her coming; it was something else'. 'I thought his dick was real'. 'It was stressful, but worth it. It was like being stuck in the lift with your best man; you can't f*ck... and there's nothing else to do'. 'I mean... it didn't seem like nothing; more like... a lost child waiting to be picked up by the fashion police'. 'I wanted to kill myself... then I thought it's too late'.

Clownfish is almost an hour of zany absurdity that drew its entire intimate audience in solely by how deeply Maria Tea commits to each gimmick. It left us feeling like a family that shared an irreplaceable moment together. This show felt like a comedic test-lab rather than a seasoned scripted performance… which might lead some to think this is a work in progress they ought wait to reconsider at a future Fringe. But I left not quite sure if that was the reality, or just what a clown wanted me to perceive as reality.

I had no idea where any new moment of Clownfish was going and I’m honestly not sure if Maria Tea, our guide, did either. That is what made the journey so special and might just for you as well.

Thank you again, Maria Tea!

♾️ A minimalist experience with lots of simple, approachable props. Very suitable for neurodivergent and sensory-conscious audience members.

One of the funniest shows I saw during my time at the Fringe this year. Alongside a couple of friends we’d actually mixed up the dates and meant to see something else but were pleasantly surprised to attend this.

The show was surreal and hilarious. It was clowning of the highest quality and I’d recommend it as a highlight of the free fringe. I was laughing essentially without interruption.

María was very friendly, taking a selfie with the audience after and having a chat with us.
