Description

Stephen has always wanted to be James Bond. He's got a tux, a fancy watch and he shakes everything he drinks. But is this still a good idea? Bond is a misogynist dinosaur, right? Journey through 60 years of Bond and 30 (something) years of Stephen as we find out if he can fulfil his father's idea of masculinity without becoming toxic.

A must-see for Bond fans and for people who just know the name. Watch a strong performance, close-up, in a small venue (16 seats). An emotional story about choosing James Bond as a role model as you grow up and about subsequent father/son relationships.

Whether you are a Bond fan or not, you will love this show as a clever, well written performance utilises the discussion on the traits of various Bonds and the culture of their times to run alongside the character’s own relationship with his Dad and delves into topics of masculinity, misogyny and the stereotypes he was expected to confirm to. All this delivered with a strong performance, touching emotion and a dash of humour too! Highly recommend anyone to go and see this show, you won’t be disappointed! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A great show blending stories of Bond with growing up and the father/son relationship. Prepare to laugh and cry as the story unfolds. Even if you don't know the Bond films it doesn't matter, the joy of this show is in the telling.

Bonding (****)
An actor combines exploring the James Bond films with the audience, and describing his own life from grandson of a coalminer to sharing Bond films with his father to how his acting career developed and was perceived by his friends and father. The fact that the room only holds 16 people, and was half full made this a particularly personal experience where he often sat on the stage and told his stories as if in a conversation. As we approached the end, it became apparent that a second interpretation of the title referenced his deep feelings for his father.

This is the 5th most enjoyable of the 32 shows I have seen so far at the Fringe this year. I hope to see more than 150 this year. You may see my other three-sentence reviews, in order from most enjoyable to worst, at my non-commercial website: https://fringefan.com/

What a great wee show. Wee venue too! Only 12 or so seats. Nice little show with lots of Bond and some rites of passage. Really enjoyed our hour with Bond, James Bond. Only on for a week, so don't miss out!

It is also about bonding with male friends—what you have to do and say to fit in—and bonding with parents from, of course, a different generation, with different expectations.

Much like the talented Bond, I hope Cyril returns for another mission next year at the Fringe, he is someone to watch!
