Description

The neighbour heard the screams from next door. The body was found floating in Chiswick River. At 16 and 20 years old, Orestes and Electra never thought they would be interrogated as suspects in their father's murder. Blood of my Father is a dark, twisted, spiralling sequence of police interrogations. Who is lying under oath? Will the pressure push them to breaking point? This is Electra, reimagined for 2024, written and performed by young actors from the Wellington Theatre Collective.

A show which has your brain in a vice-grip from beginning to end, twist after twist but always keeping the audience in the know.
No spoilers here, but there’s an interesting introspective to be had on the main man Aurestus himself once the twist is revealed, revealing a further layer of character to be analysed.
The Royal Mile is full of treasure troves, this happens to be one of the brightest.

What a profoundly moving piece and what a brilliant group of young actors.

Saw this show on Saturday and WOW it was amazing. One of my favourite shows I’ve seen and don’t think I’ve been more engaged in my life. The plot twist made my jaw drop and the plot was brilliant! Overall a fantastic show.

How do you make a gripping whodunnit from a story known to every dramatist for 2 or more millennia? Here's how! A complex, accomplished script with a cathartic final twist that I, for one, didn't see coming, although it has been well prepared. Performed by a young cast with great commitment and maturity, unafraid to take on the classics and rework myth in a modern context. Excellent soundtrack too, adding much more than just atmosphere.
I only learnt at the end that this 'Greek tragedy' comes complete with its own satyr play. Dionysa, which unfortunately I won't be able to see.

If well written, brilliantly acted and cleverly directed drama is your thing, then find some time for Blood of my Father. I was gripped throughout and was spellbound by each and every performance from the extremely talented cast. Well worth the entry price and then some. Bravo.

Blood of my father is seriously a must see show at the fringe. I was utterly gripped from start to finish - a credit to the raw talent and passion from the cast and to the writer’s (Darcey Hogan) incredible emotional depth when transforming these Greek characters into a modern interpretation. Go buy tickets - you won’t regret it !!

Great stuff. Acting is truly excellent and the writing is outstanding. Grab your ticket now before it's too late! Congratulations Darcey Hogan and cast!
Keep your eyes on Darcey Hogan. If she has written this at 16 - the future is extremely bright. Congrats all. Now stop reading this and book your ticket!

‘Blood of My Father’ is a trailblazer of a play and a must see!

Based on Greek Tragedy the themes of mental illness, neglect and concealment are ignited by the young talent-strewn cast. The relationship between Electra (Darcy Hogan) and Orestus (Ralph McFadyen) is tense and ‘complicated’ as their family relationships unfold. Orestus had me transfixed with the subtlety of his toxic, family-induced anxiety. The neighbour/ pseudo mother Demetra (Izzty Martin) brilliantly unsettles us with her doubtful motives to parent these troubled young characters.

As the tension builds the play’s denouement is bold, heightened and fierce as we find out who has blood on their hands. The use of the colour red in the cast’s costumes cleverly teases our expectations. This is a beautifully crafted play – but the real shocker is that the writer, Darcy Hogan is only 16 years old – this is a talent to watch out for, what will she be writing at 26?...

Make sure to fit this one in!

Most years, I try not to predetermine which shows I see at the fringe, but prefer to see where the tide takes me. However, when the Greek myth at the heart of your favourite Richard Strauss opera is being performed, well then one has to make allowances and open the diary, pen in hand. How glad I am I did so. Blood of my Father is a sensation! I saw the show this afternoon, and I was utterly blown away. Thoroughly thrilling, nailing-biting stuff! And the tempo carried the audience along as only the best writing does. As a critic, I award five stars without hesitation! Please go and see this show!

When I say this show has been the highlight of the fringe so far… i mean it! The actors were unbelievable, the premise is something i’ve never seen before. It was so moving, so beautifully written and the atmosphere was incredible. I would watch Blood of my Father over and over again… not one to miss!

Brilliant acting and deeply moving. A hard hitting show about topical issues linked with classical culture.
Well done to the playwright Darcey Hogan. This is a triumph.

Paul Mills 33 days ago

A really interesting take on the classic Electra Greek Tragedy, in the form of modern police interrogation looking back on the events and personalities that caused the murder of Agamemnon.

Thoughtful writing, and some stand-out acting performances make this one to see!

Wonderful piece of theatre - well written, well cast and not to be missed. First performance was just about sold out so get in quick as it is only on this week.
Would definitely see this again.

Jimmy Harris 33 days ago

We absolutely adored Blood of my Father today! This is an intelligent reinterpretation of a classic Greek tale. Written by one of the cast who is 16 (!) and a stellar cast performing every role. Breathless, intriguing, fast moving and a true edge of the seat drama. Definitely not to be missed. This week only.
