Description

'You know, I never liked flowers for graves. They're just this morbid reflection of death, as if this place needs any more of that...' When Llew arrives at the graveyard with flowers for his mum, the last thing he expects to find is a feisty, possibly feral girl hijacking his night. Llew can’t stand her cynicism and Aoife thinks he's an eejit, but the two are apparently stuck with each other, with nothing in common but grief. As heart-warming as it is heart-wrenching, a new dark comedy about time moving forward when it feels like everything should stop.

I adored this show so much. As someone who has experienced losing my mother, I have not watched something that has so accurately, sensitively, and wonderfully depicted what grief at a young age is like and to be left completely alone after losing the person you loved most. Not only that, but the comedy felt so perfect and for once I was not the one making the darkest jokes in a room. The actors were superb and I felt completely engaged with every moment. The writing and staging choices as well were incredible, the use of the bench to have moments facing away from the audience was lovely, and the final staging that the ending involved leaving the graveyard and choosing to move on…I can’t properly put into words how much seeing this play meant to me and how glad I was I chose to go and see it on my last day in Edinburgh. Thank you for putting this on, the publicity card now lives on my whiteboard.

This is powerful stuff and it is rendered in a deeply personal and perceptive manner by Charles Ison and Christina Knight.
