Description

The Best Man Show is an interactive and darkly hilarious wedding reception where comedian Mark Vigeant plays the Groom's brother Paul, who has been asked to give the toast at an untraditional polyamorous commitment ceremony. It starts out fun and silly, with your typical masculine roasting and ribbing, and slowly devolves into a drunken existential crisis where Paul tries desperately to understand what it means to love, but can't get over his own masculinity to recognise how lonely he is. Filled with laughter, dancing, clowning, bubbles, audience participation, and more. Winner: Best Comedy, Hollywood Fringe 2024.

This is the show that had the most laughs per minute for me. I couldn’t get enough of the audience interactions. He is a masterful improviser, so even the interactions that you think will go wrong, can be turned around and made into a running joke for the rest of the show. And he does a great job making his audience feel comfortable and IN on the joke, rather than being the butt of it. The development of the character himself also takes a surprisingly emotional turn. A hilarious and resonant comedy. Must see!

What a fantastic roller coaster of show. Hysterical one moment and then utterly poignant the next. Performed with such commitment and honesty the audience never for a second didn’t feel like we were in the most capable of hands. Such an utterly wonderful show!

This show was so funny - masterful crowd work, and constant laughs. This train wreck of a character felt totally believable and there was genuine heart behind it. Best show I’ve seen so far at Fringe.

Incredible!
The other day I saw some strange young man handing out flyers on the street, seemingly intoxicated with a tie wrapped around his head. He was imploring passers-by to come hear his speech at his brothers wedding.
So obviously I had to go.

You will hear this sentence many times during the Fringe, but in this case it’s 100% true:
This show is a MUST SEE.

The way Mark Vigeant interacts with his audience and how we all became a part of this wedding reception (some way more than others in an absolutely hilarious way) is pure gold.
His delivery and timing is perfect. He went through all the emotions one human could possibly have and then some.
And we laughed ‘til our sides hurt and had genuine tears in our eyes.

I went in not knowing what to expect and was completely blown away. Brilliant show. Brilliant performer.
Please go see this show! You will not regret it.

Laugh out loud funny and surprisingly poignant. It will be better than all of the weddings you've had to go to this summer. Don’t miss it!

Clever, madcap, highly entertaining, never-a-dull-moment, insightfully witty. A well written script punctuated with deft improvisation. Excellent and hilarious use of audience participation. The Best Man Show has the classic feel of a Neil Simon comedy updated for a contemporary audience. One of those hiding in plain sight gems at Edinburgh Fringe. Mark Vigeant is a true talent.

This is what I want when I hear “crowdwork comedy”. A brief bit of good ol’-fashioend phone exposition brings the audience to any context we missed from the title: we are all at a wedding about to watch The Best Man give a speech at his brother’s wedding and he has a lot to get off his chest. What follows is a brilliant experiment in trustin the audience to play. In less capable hands it could all fall apart but Mark never lets us see how close the chaos comes to spilling out of the container he has carefully crafted.

Hilarious, clever and well executed.
Skilled interaction with the audience, who are the guests at the wedding party and join in / help the best man’s speech.
Definitely worth seeing, you won’t be disappointed.
