Description

Beryl Cook's joyful and comic paintings are known and loved throughout the world but little is known of the very private person behind them. In her fifth play on a painter, Kara Wilson has worked with the artist's family to shed light on this intriguing figure. This play offers a rare glimpse into Beryl's private thoughts as the audience witnesses her complete one of her bold and playful paintings.

Great one-woman play about Beryl Cook. I love her paintings and enjoyed hearing more about her life. This play really caught the spirit of this artist. And to recreate one of her paintings at the same time was a masterpiece. Five stars.

This was an hour well spent.Kara brought everyone into her bosom as the shy , retiring lady that is Beryl Cook.her talent to deliver the story & also simultaneously paint a BC picture with joy & verve was heartwarming.
Definitely recommend this .A perfect pic me up anyday.

This was a delightful show with actress Kara Wilson simultaneously telling Beryl Cook's story whilst painting a BC picture.
Gentle typical Fringe show,

I loved this show so much. I have always admired Beryl Cook’s work but knew little of her life story. Kara did an superb job of bringing her to life with humour and a display of her own excellent painting skills

What a lovely show. Full of compassion, warmth and gentle humour. This is exactly what the Fringe is about. I knew nothing about Beryl Cook or indeed the actress Kara Wilson but this is a little gem of a show.

Kara Wilson's piece is well worth a watch. Informative, funny and the chance to purchase the painting produced during the show to take home as a momento of your Fringe experience. Thank you Kara we thoroughly enjoyed your show.

it is fascinating to see a picture painted over the course of an hour, and you will come out of this show wiser about Ms Cook and her work.

By itself, Wilson’s performance would be top notch, but she delivers this whilst simultaneously completing a highly accurate copy of a Cook artwork in oils, applying the final brushstroke just as the last line is uttered. Quite the masterpiece!
