Description

Beryl & Clive, a wildly funny comedy about a fabulously unconventional couple breaking all the rules to fulfil their creative dreams. Believing in yourself is at the heart of this story, with laughter, chaos and creative spirits unleashed. Amy Gibbons' writing takes you on a joyful journey into the absurd, where relationships and self expression take on a whole new meaning. With clown, song and dance this play promises an explosion of love and hilarity like never seen before. Sing or die! 'Not just funny, hilarious...' (James Pearson, Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club).

I loved it. A decidedly weird mix of aural and physical comedy. Is it absurdist? Is it Dada-esque? Uh.... Probably yeah. For the first 10 minutes you're lulled into the false impression that you're about to watch some really bizarre children's production, but then it rapidly progresses into something like the theatrical version of a lost Beatles album recorded during the Sgt Pepper's psychedelic period that they decided was way too far out there to release to the general public. At that point you realize that eating that second tab was probably a bad idea but all you can do is laugh and ride it out to the end.

Brilliant show: clever, absurd, and exquisitely vaudeville! And sublime performance from the actors. Highly recommended!

Well, well, well! A barnstorming tour-de-force - such talented performers, laugh-out-loud funny but enormously poignant too. These two really do deserve to be seen - and the writing - oh, the writing. So very clever, absurd but authentic, and leaves you with joy in your heart. For me, a clear 5 stars - I'd put it on a par with Cyrano, which I saw immediately afterwards at the Traverse.

Unbelievable. It was one hell of an experience. Trying to put the pieces together…
Meeting the actors afterwards made me really how crazy those characters really were!!!

Bonkers brilliance. This show is funny theatre of the chaos. Laughed the whole way through. Like nothing else I have seen this year at The Fringe. If you want to step into a world of silly, funny madness then go!

A fantastic, hilarious, truly quite indescribable spectacle! A mixture of clowning, improvisation, dancing and singing, truly what more do you want?
Something really quite different to what is going on at the Fringe, a must see !!

Wow! I loved this! Beryl & Clive were so engaging and funny and brilliantly unexpected. Both actors are utterly superb, masters of their art and managed to hold the audience in the palm of their hands throughout. I laughed out loud for most of it!! Witty! Pithy! Clever! Creative! Fabulous! Highly recommended - you need to go and see this play.
