Description

A dark romantic comedy that explores the topics of death and the afterlife. A couple finds themselves stranded on a melancholy beach in Wales. They didn’t walk there, they didn’t drive. It was almost as if they closed their eyes and woke up there. Why a beach? Why Wales? Who are they? What are they? An existential crisis with your partner is as fun as it sounds, especially when you’re heavily pregnant. Beach Babe explores the question that was only asked by the playwright and a few pretentious art students: What would happen if you could grieve yourself?

Touching and refreshing take on death, motherhood, and the existential question "why here?" when coming to terms with your afterlife. I really enjoyed the subtle yet funny performances from both lead actors. It was grounding to follow their intimate and tender relationship through the nuances of their bond. Despite the setting being slightly uncomfortable as it forces you to wonder where your own afterlife would be, I was comforted as I watched the two of them take care of each other. Their everlasting love allowed you to imagine what they were like when they were alive, which only made meeting the daughter more powerful as you then understood she came from love.

7 years we have been coming to the fringe and we are always looking for those nuggets of pure brilliance to pop up.

This is one of them. Heart warming, funny, thoughtful, emotional, well acted and an enjoyable time spent.

A must see and a great start time at the beginning of the day.

A stellar show with a stellar cast & crew. This play takes its audience on a surreal adventure with some laughs, questions, and heart-wrenching moments. This is one of our top must-see picks from the festival so far, and highly recommend anyone to make this one of their festival top picks!

A gorgeous piece of new writing. Snappy, moving and relatable and handles deeper themes with a light touch and loveable, engaging characters. Great acting performances all around. I left feeling hopeful- both because of the impact of the show and that they said they are looking to extend it. I wanted more! Don’t miss it.

From the first entrance of tirelessly topless and funny leading man to the cracking sarcastic wit of the leading woman, this show will keep you laughing and guessing the whole way through. A well put together blend of comedy and emotional discovery! Great work from Starving Creatives, we're already planning our trip to Rhyl, Wales!

A sort of dark existential and absurdist romantic comedy, the show looks at relationships, motherhood and grief. This short debut piece is a work in progress ... and shows promise.
