Description

War! What’s it good for? Lesbians, apparently… This tragi-comedy follows the relationships between four queer women anticipating the end of the war in a bomb shelter turned bachelor pad. But when the men return, will they lose everything? Described as a brilliantly honest and funny queer play, University of Bristol DramSoc’s Bachelor Girls is a timeless exploration of female friendships and relationships. This August join Billie, Jude, V and Claudia down in the bunker as they invent ridiculous drinking games, fall in love and start to realise that life might just be more fun without men.

i watched this play after a heart wrenching sapphic breakup and it was absolutely brilliant, perfectly encapsulated my emotions and the performances were out of this world!! each facial expression and word spoken was so fantastically delivered!! i was so enchanted that i forgot where i was, entirely absorbed by the lights, the emotions, the scenes, a job well done to everyone involved. this play gently tore my heart out, shattered it, and sewed it back together.

the music was immaculately timed and each performer completely embodied their character, there was no distinction between reality and the performance i felt as if i was apart of what was happening.

i could go on forever, this was genuinely the best play i have seen to date!♥️ by the end i was paralysed and in tears, unable to move from the sheer magnificence of it all. i was beyond moved yet unable to move, i am so grateful to have gotten the honour to watch this amazing piece

11/10 ⭐️

thank you bachelor girls!

Genuinely such an amazing show!! Gutted I didn’t see this earlier as I would’ve loved to have seen it again before the end of the run. The characters were really well written and portrayed and it was so easy to get invested in their stories despite it being much a short performance. Only downside was my seat was right next to the stage door and I did get hit a couple times. But overall, a must see!!

Absolutely riveting throughout. I was completely focused in the entire way throughout.A perfect balance between tragedy comedy and drama, I could watch the four girls for hours and hours. A unbelievable script that packs in both witty light hearted dialogue and crushing realities war time circumstances, queer love and heart break

AN absolute MUST SEE THIS FRINGE

Well-developed characters for such a short show and beautifully acted. The ending leaves the door open for interpretation and you’ll be thinking about it well after.

A beautiful show. The acting was of such a high standard, each character was captured perfectly. The writing was fantastic, such an interesting concept that worked so well. The relationships and dynamics between the women were raw and beautiful to witness.
Really recommend this show!!!

I was very lucky to be the last admitted to a recent show; they’re selling out and it’s no wonder! An incredible cast manage to bring to life a story of a small community- one that, although set almost 80 years in the past, feels familiar. Definitely try to arrive early and sit in the centre bank if you can; the cast primarily play to the front and I missed a number of moments- but still thoroughly enjoyed the show!

If you’re looking for a fringe show with a sensational script and an extremely talented cast, this is the show for you! Even from a restricted view I was fully engaged throughout the entire play. A brilliant piece of entertainment that is a must watch for theatre lovers.

One of the best shows I’ve seen so far. Incredible performances from everyone in the cast as well as perfectly balanced clever and witty writing. It says so much that I was sat on the far left of the stage with a very obscured view of the show but was still completely immersed through the entire thing !!

Absolutely incredible both acting, directing and writing. I would come and see this again just to see it from another angle and witness the talent of the actors again!!

In the same way that a good narrative arc provides flow and progression within a play, there are some plays that provide flow and progression to the bodies of works we see at the EdFringe each year.
Bachelor Girls delivers full spectrum emotion and pushes theatre forward. Upstanding!

My first Bristol Uni show tonight and what a cracker. Bachelor Girls is a 2024 exploration of 1940s queer living. On the cusp of peace what and who will have won. The headline narrative we have in our heads masks a much deeper truth which even now, in so many countries in the world, is still a crippling hidden secret. You probably won't get a ticket but give it a try, and if you can fit it into your schedule explore some of the other Bristol shows. Dramsoc is alive and well and delivering fine writing and excellent truthful heartfelt performers. Proud ex president from many years before these grads were born

Lesbians in a bomb shelter during World War 2? What could go wrong? The show is well-acted and strikes a balance of comedy and seriousness. The little black box theatre is intimate and adds to the setting of the show. Definitely worth seeing!

Really well written and acted show by this all women team from Bristol Dramsoc. Well worth seeing, not necessarily a happy watch but really enjoyable.
