Description

B.L.I.P.S. is a wild ride of real-life circus psychosis, acrobatic madness, hula-hoop hope and radical resilience. Have you ever had insomnia? Thought you were telepathic? Or believed you were Jesus incarnate? Margot Mansfield has, and this is her story. At 19, she began experiencing Brief Limited Intermittent Psychotic Symptoms. B.L.I.P.S. is a touching retelling about the chaos of psychosis, told through beautiful imagery, physical feats, lip-sync, home videos and circus virtuosity. A peek through the beautiful lens of batshit crazy. Performed and co-written by award-winning Margot Mansfield. Directed and co-written by acclaimed, multi-award winning, circus luminary Jess Love.

BLIPS – Brief Limited Intermittent Psychotic Symptoms. If these episodes are a part of your own life, how might you explain them to other people? Well, you could download an article from a medical journal. You could just describe your feelings, your experience. Or you could do as Margot Mansfield does in this powerful show, and try, through the energy of her intensely personal performance, to immerse her audience in a direct experience of her reality as she lives it. This is not an easy show – a jarring, jangling soundscape assaults the ear. Margot confronts us with some of her deep fears and Siri-regulated paranoia. And she uses her circus skills to create striking physical images of precariousness and of life only just in balance. The driving need to keep things in frantic motion just to stay upright.

Such an emotional and brutally honest performance could overwhelm…. but Margot, with circus instinct, deftly employs humour to keep us in balance. Hugely recommended.

An excellent example of how to use physical theatre to deepen and further the storytelling. Our protagonist is engaging and easily draws the audience in to root for her throughout the story. Very well crafted and worth the watch.

Margot is a pure talent! This show is raw, honest, beautiful and needed. B.L.I.P.S dissects so many areas of psychosis in such a creative way, showcasing pure emotions, experience and Margot’s talents. A great blend of humour, circus skills and drama keeps this show fresh and engaging for all audiences. It made me feel so much, but most of all, respect for the honesty and vulnerability we see from our leading lady. A must see piece of work.

Make the effort to get up early and out to see this show - a very honest, funny and surprisingly light show about this young woman's experience of psychosis and sleep deprivation. She dances and talks and does back flips, and it won me over.

Really enjoyed this very different fringe show! Capturing and quirky whilst still being funny. Worth a watch definitely would highly recommend.
