Auto/cratic Tango
This performance arguably has an interesting concept of portraying a relationship through a series of tango's, some more interesting than others. The dancers are good and experienced and the music works well.
However, I feel ambiguous about this show, about what goes on in this man and woman’s relationship.
In the beginning I thought this was a story about a dubious relationship, which seemed an interesting start but then it didn’t go anywhere.
The whole way through it stayed exactly like what I see in the poster Image: a controlling man holding a scared woman who is trying not to tread on his toes, desperate for him not to hurt her. His mood swings dominate the story, from scolding her for not rehearsing enough to creepy smiles, all while she has no defence and only wants to stop his tantrums. In her solo, while he sleeps, she seems to reach out to the audience, for help or support (?)
As his ‘passion' borders with aggression, she is trying to calm him, sooth him, running after him, trying to make the best of the situation. To me this was not erotic at ALL! It was more autocratic from his side. What point did they want to make here, or was this it?
So I left quite confused and uneasy, although the last few seconds gave some hope.
The show was about 30 min and felt cut short.

Amazing show! Two top-notch tango dancers explore the topic of intimacy and relationship through incredible footwork. Also has a great collection of music. As a tango dancer myself, I was truly impressed by how tango can be a means for storytelling. A must-see!

The excitement of the Auto/Erotic Tango never weakens. Even as it entertains us, we are reminded how powerfully our movements convey the way we feel about the world and each other.
