Description

A darkly comic one-woman show created by writer-performer and cancer survivor, Valery Reva. At Least I’m Not Bald is her second Fringe show, and centres on the “big C”, the terrifying letter we all dread. Using comedy and black humour, Valery draws on her own lived experiences and other testimonials, to explore the depths of despair and those moments in-between that make life worth living, no matter what. A journey towards healing and self-betterment, this show will leave you stunned, crying and laughing in the face of death.

This was honestly one of the best shows that I have seen at this year's fringe. Valery Reva is an extremely talented actress who delivers an emotional performance regarding her recent thyroid cancer diagnosis and subsequent operation. This was a powerful performance that made you think about your own mortality after listening to Valery's experience. I would definitely recommend this show, as a must see and will look forward to seeing more from this very talented writer and actress.

This real life story is told in ways which gripped me from the first moment. I don't know how Valery Reva managed to evoke such vivid scenes and nuanced characterizations in a studio space with minimal props, but she did. She most certainly did. A deeply moving theatrical experience.

A thought provoking and darkly funny show where we were taken on a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences through the characters experience with cancer and the Ukraine war. Would highly recommend seeing, includes a toy beaver (very cool).

Through Ukrainian mythologies, believable human interactions, and an ever-changing, seemingly simplistic set, Valery Reva shifts and turns through At Least I'm Not Bald.

Working with composite characters, instead of true memoir, Valery shepherds the audience on a poignant emotional journey, marked by the added complexities of medical care during an ongoing war.

In the C Alto Studio at Edinburgh Fringe 2024, this intimate space pairs perfectly, so be sure to see it here.

Multiple wars on the homefront, none of which can be fought so much as endured. Reva writes these stories eloquently and performs them with passion and technical skill in this nuanced drama that looks at life and death, survival and fate writ large and small. The tech and minimal staging enhance every move and shift of tone beautifully. A human and humane story not to be missed.

She’s done it again - after ‘inSecure’ last year I was so looking forward to what Valery Reva had to say this time around and she did not disappoint. Profoundly funny and sad and imaginative, Valery weaves a fairytale where not all princesses get their happy endings at the end of the fairytale. 10/10, run don’t walk!

Wow - what a show! It absolutely deserves a sold out run with a queue out the door! Valery takes us up and down and all around with her through this story, was a true privilege to watch, a must see show!

Reva tells her own real life story by the use of a complex, beautifully written narrative, accompanied by subtle, effective sound and the unusually creative use of simple props.
