Description

In her brand-new solo show, As Good as It Gets, Elizabeth Colarte plays a shameless woman desperate for any excitement in her everyday life. In her bloodthirsty hunt for the high life, she keeps things fresh with a new job every day, spends her time skulking around older people to feel special, and unintentionally starts a whorehouse or two. Through sardonic humor and fast-paced scenes, we watch the threads of her life unravel. As Good as It Gets is an unflinching tale of our spoiled youth and what we lose when we can't be satisfied.

This is a show I went into based on a great conversation with one of the production team outside, and I'm so glad I did! Even though I'm a different gender and generation from her, Elizabeth's protagonist felt completely relatable and her story was fantastic.

I'm not sure the show description does her justice? I never got the sense that she was 'shameless' or a 'spoiled youth', more that she was in one of those moments where life had thrown her some huge curves she was trying to deal with while still trying to be kind where she could, invisible where she couldn't. I can easily imagine her as a character in a Wes Anderson movie.

Amazing show, full of deep emotions that you aren’t afraid to laugh at when her wit turns it around so quickly! I’m so glad to have been able to see her here. You won’t be disappointed either!

Elizabeth Colarte is a fantastic actress full of talent and will no doubt be a recognised name based on her incredible performance. She was able to switch between characters seemlessly, allowing for the audience to easily tell apart one character from another, which is key in a show which has almost 10 characters (if I counted correctly, some are more prominent than others).

The protagonist is living a life which has taken a standstill and is desperate for something to ignite it back to life. The show would have benefited from more of a focus of what the protagonist wishes to achieve in her life: a job, a person, family relationship developments etc. Without spoiling anything, the ending didn't feel like a true ending for the protagonist and it would have benefited from a further 10 minutes. Having said that, obviously shows are restricted to a certain run time, so whilst I'm not suggesting that Elizabeth should have performed for longer, perhaps in future performances Elizabeth may create in her career, there could be a more specific character motivation outlined and a clearer resolution.

Outstanding solo performance from the hugely talented Elizabeth Colarte in this thoroughly engaging play. Poignant and funny in equal measure, this is a piece that required acting of real range and Ms Colarte had all the skills to pull it off. Highly recommended.

Excellent show! Elizabeth Colarte is superb and the show really leaves you with something to think about when you leave the theatre. Very well written, and she executes wonderfully - you feel like you are immersed in her world. Highly recommend this gem!

Elizabeth Colarte with a tour-de-force performance that had a disappointingly small audience captivated for the entire piece. The best individual acting experience of a packed day and we saved the best til last. See it and remember where you were when you saw the charismatic Elizabeth Colarte for the first time.

As Good as It Gets is a charming window into a messy life, and the storytelling is beautiful and comic in equal measure.
