Description

Apricot is a dark comedy set in modern day London. The play takes a look at our post Roe v Wade world through the eyes of best friends Angel and Gina. On the cusp of adulthood, they experience highs and lows when Angel undergoes several pregnancies. This dark comedy explores gender roles, reproductive rights and moral ambiguity from the viewpoint of three teenagers, posing big questions for its audience. 'The show makes no apologies and pulls no punches in this pithy dark comedy' but rather offers two young women's perspectives 'with humour and heart' (TheSpyInTheStalls.com).

Really liked the acting and the show. Hit some dark topics in a funny way. Actors showed a whole range of emotions, and keep you hooked throughout. Def one of the top shows I’ve seen this year at the fringe.

A really darkly funny but also poignant show. The sharp script and committed performances very effectively sell the youth of the characters and their friendship. The jokes land surprisingly well considering the heavy subject matter. Highly recommended!

Whilst the acting was strong, the story dealt with themes of abortion with a lack of sensitivity and care. From seemingly shaming teen-mums to reducing Christian pro-life views to a dumb and at times sinister character, the play fell short at offering any depth or nuance on the topic. I was hoping to leave the show feeling empowered but instead felt deflated and saw misogynistic views reinforced.

The show dealt with themes very insensitively, and was quite triggering to watch. I left feeling rather upset, and felt the show was horrible to 18-year-old mothers, and also opted for a slut-shaming tactic without any resolution or empowering speech that helped the girls overcome this prejudice. Actors were amazing and definitely provided nuances, but overall a very triggering play about abortion and miscarriage, representing the topic badly, but mostly portraying this serious and contemporary female topic in a bad light. The show would have benefitted from an advisor from women’s centres/charities/academics.

Thought-provoking. Well worth a watch. Great script and acting.

Can’t recommend enough! Nuanced characters, compelling performances, and deep subject matter that is tackled on a knife edge between very dark and very funny. It’s everything you could want in a fringe show.

Highly recommend. Full of laughs, but touches on important issues. Acting was brilliant too!

A gripping, hard hitting 3 person show that delves into the subject of abortion in a light-hearted, dark comedic way. Brilliant performance from all actors showing off a range of emotion. A must watch this year at the fringe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Interesting play that changes your opinion about the characters as you progress through the action from unimpressed to having sympathy with all 3 of them ! Well worth a watch and it stays with you . Acting was excellent !

I would definitely recommend seeing this incredibly funny and thought provoking show! Made me laugh throughout, with its quick witted writing and brilliant dynamic between two friends, whilst also dealing with the emotions of pregnancy and abortion. Go see it!!

Apricot is in many ways a dark comedy; the banter between the two girls is very entertaining.
