Description

BC:AD (Before Children, After Diapers) is a stand-up comedy show and one mad, mommy's take on how the definitions of words change before and during motherhood. Through a number of stories from before she had children and after she changed loads of diapers, survived the institution called marriage and then found herself amidst two short roommates who insist on calling her 'mom', Anu paints a peripatetic picture of the life and times of a comedian, filmmaker and sometime engineer who loves endurance sports, including parenting.

We watched BC:AD on its opening night and the comedian from south-India, Anu Vaidyanathan, was a warm, funny, personable performer. We were really happy to have tried this show after watching some bigger acts because this is what the fringe is about, supporting smaller acts. We would love to read her book and watch her films some day. The show is about parenting, time and very feminist in it's own, quiet way. Her impressive track record outside comedy and the arts really adds to the allure of this material and broadened our perspectives. An international comedian who knew so many things about Scotland's athletes and was an athlete herself, Anu is a gem and this show is at the top of our recommendations.

We went to BC:AD as a family. We had so much fun. Anu Vaidyanathan is definitely one of the best comedians whose life experiences are relatable, down-to-earth and hilarious. My daughter and I laughed so much, we are still talking about the show. We also await the publication of her book for this comedy work and hope she makes a film out of this material some day. A must-watch at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024.

BC:AD is one of the funniest shows in the fringe, I ran into Anu flyering (respect to all artists who work so hard) and was immediately drawn to this soft-spoken pitch. The show itself was very emotionally engaging, beautifully written and so clever. The broad experiences, number of places the story travels and her delivery was a treat to my husband and me. We could relate to so many things despite being from a different part of the world. Kudos to this brave artist who has brought two shows this year to the fringe, one comedy, one theatre. I cannot wait to see what she does next.
