Description

Join Anti-Heroine through several encounters with Manchester's night-life and dating scene as she teeters on the edge of adulthood. Written by Pip Carew and directed by Em Bunch, this one-woman show is making its debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Downstairs Productions. Anti-Heroine, starring Lottie Burgess, is a love letter to female friendship and bathroom stalls. Over a few nights, a spunky but directionless young woman navigates the perils of online dating, her fractured relationship with her mother and trying to have some self-respect with no income. At least she's not in love with… oh, wait.

An absolute tour de force in writing and performance. A one-woman show taking you on a journey where you learn to love, hate, and forgive the main character, while meeting a few others along the way. Lottie is breathtaking throughout and throws herself into each character (I almost forgot there was only one person on the stage!). Heartbreaking and hilarious, I had a fantastic time and sincerely hope this isn't the end for this show!

Five stars! When standing in line chatting with other fringe patrons they'll ask what I recommend and it's been sad saying "Anti-heroine, but sadly it's Edinburgh run is over already"

Late to the party here, but this show is one of the best and most polished I’ve ever seen at the Edinburgh Fringe. The writing from Pip Carew is fantastic — effortlessly funny and perfectly-timed, with some really beautiful moments of reflection and insight tied together by brilliantly subtle foreshadowing — and it’s anchored by a phenomenal and genuinely captivating performance by Lottie Burgess.
This show understands how ubiquitous one-person shows are at the Fringe, and balances and executes its comedic and emotional moments flawlessly to ensure that every member of the audience walks away with something valuable.
Anti-Heroine deserves all the brilliant reviews it’s had and more — make sure you catch it at the Camden Fringe later this month!!

My favorite show I have seen from a performer I didn’t already know. Poignant without being saccharine and whip funny storytelling/acting.

A funny and keenly observed show. Comparisons to Fleabag are well-deserved. I loved the deadpan humour combined with some astute commentary about relationships of all kinds. Very glad we managed to catch this on its last day.

Blisteringly funny, an absolute must see.

Wow! Just incredible and so well deserved of it's 4 Star, Top 5 theatre review from the Scotsman's first fringe weekend.
It's more than 40 years since I was a young woman of Anti-Heronine's age but I laughed and winced in equal measure at her life experiences and challenges. This is a bit of a 'Miranda' meets 'Fleabag', beautifully brought together by this talented team of young women. A Fringe must for anyone of any age x

Wow! Wow! Wow! Loved every moment of this amazing show! Laughed throughout, and the energy of this monologue was fabulous! Taking us all on a journey of hilarious intimacy, that also made you think! Totally recommend this show!

Loved this show! This brilliantly written, performed and directed show is just the best thing we have seen at the Fringe. We laughed, we teared up - we loved the humour and the sensitive approach to modern day relationship anxieties. Go see it!!!

An ABSOLUTE must see! Lottie Burgess is a sensation with superb comedic timing and nuanced characters. An expertly engaging performance which presents both the light and dark of being Gen Z. The writing is outstanding and it is directed with a clear attention to detail. Do not miss this, absolute magic!

Really funny show. Lottie was superb - playing herself and so many different characters, so it really didn't seem like a one woman show. Pip Carew's script was absolutely first class - so well written: funny of course, but so perceptive too. You don't have to be in your 20s to enjoy this (though possibly being female helps) - highly recommended.

Amazing show. All the jokes were great. All the characters were over the top kind of funny and that was fantastic. Even in the more sad moments Lottie showed how talented she is and really gave Fleabag a run for it’s money. Amazingly put together, directed and written. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

This was EVERYTHING!! Absolutely the best thing I’ve seen at the fringe so far, and it won’t be the last time I watch it either! It’s as if Miranda and Fleabag had a love-child, and that love-child turned out exactly how you’d want it to for a show! The performer also had just the perfect comedic timing, and the direction and script was just exactly what she needed to shine! If there’s anything you should see at the fringe - this is it. Xxx

I absolutely ADORED this show!!!! Lottie is an unbelievably talented performer and the whole show was so slick! Full of jokes - I was laughing non stop!
It was really thought provoking and emotional too - overall a 10/10 show!

Antiheroine is the perfect insight to the modern young woman - constant suffering at the hands of men and an ever going spiral of not knowing what to do with yourself when your whole life’s ahead of you. This sounds like a tragedy, but Pip Carew’s hilarious writing turns it into 50 minutes of laughter, sprinkled in with some heartfelt moments that get the waterworks going. Lottie Burgess is the star of the show (of course, as it’s a one woman show), but the way she effortlessly plays many characters makes you forget it’s just her on stage. Emily Bunch as the director has done a fantastic job of merging the talents of Carew and Burgess into something very special. Even if you’re not a bisexual woman in her 20s just trying to go on a date with someone ‘passable’, I promise you’ll have a good giggle at this show.

Brilliant show, well worth going to see. Funny, relatable, like Fleabag but a woman in her 20s, a laugh a minute, especially for the girlies (although my brother loved it too!!!)
