Description

A journey through the storied soul of Scotland. Tales of ancient bards, wily druids, shapeshifters, wildlings and warrior poets are brought to life in a contemporary storytelling style by Dougie Mackay, with musical accompaniment by Freya Rae. A sell-out hit at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2022, this fresh and joyful take on Celtic lore and Scotland’s landscape is graced by light touch and honest humour, sharing poetic echoes of old animistic cultures of these islands carried through the tales of the Fianna. 'A masterful hour of tale and tune' ****½ (TheQR.co.uk). **** (AllEdinburghTheatre.com).

I saw this on my last full day of the Fringe, having just completed 11 shows in 9 days and it was EXACTLY what i needed!

For one beautiful hour I was transported through time and space to lands of giants and druids, warriors and spells. It was truly soul cleansing.

The storytelling was entrancing with the most incredible underscore weaving its magic over the words. I was amazed to find that i knew some of these stories, but had absolutely no idea where from. Maybe I'm part fae... but it was the final story that broke my heart, one I had not heard the end of before. In fact I don't recall ever having heard a legend, myth or fairytale before that paints such a clear picture of 'modern' people trampling over the souls of their ancestors. I cried, I laughed, I howled like a dog (call and response, not just a weird heckle).

If you need relief from the endless hurricane of people and flyers, or you just have a soul that loves beauty and legend, go and see this incredible show. Hopefully you'll leave with a spirit renewed.
