Description

'Hey... do you have a minute?' Bad from your boyfriend, worse from your boss. From New York-based stand-up, viral video comedian and former tech employee Alexis Gay, Unprofessional is a comedy debut about working (or, uh, not working) in tech, and one very specific 4pm meeting at a company called... Redacted (she may or may not have signed an NDA, sorry!). Directed by Fringe veteran Matt Gehring, this show explores making work your entire personality, going nowhere on the hedonic treadmill and worrying so much about your LinkedIn profile that it lands you at the hair doctor.

Not unprofessional but very professional indeed. We thoroughly enjoyed this polished performance. I now feel guilty about handing an employee a 'pip'. Worth seeing.

Alexis hits the nail on the head with her commentary about the insanity that is modern corporate life (especially in tech). I related to many of the themes and experiences in her show as a recovering American tech worker, but this show is for EVERYONE.

Alexis' masterful, authentic storytelling and comedic explanations of corporate lingo makes this show a must see. Highly recommend!

Relatable, Witty, Insightful

If you’ve worked for a corporation or a startup, you’ll feel the funny and the pain of “unprofessional.” Alexis Gay may no longer be climbing the corporate ladder, but her comedy is!

Overachievers, or anyone who’s felt the sting of being fired, will have a good time at this laugh-per-PowerPoint-slide show.

I enjoy the short-form sketch content that Alexis has been creating these past few years, and getting to see her live during Fringe was not on my bingo, but I definitely do not regret it.

Alexis delivers her personal journey gracefully and with good cohesion, with elegant foreshadowing and heart-felt expression. Whilst some audience interaction can feel a bit tense or awkward it still comes off genuine and engaging.

Working in tech, I was expecting material requiring more specific knowledge but the particular role in question was a bit of a curve ball for me, but I'm sure it ends up being more relatable overall, being less techy, and doesn't diminish the actual content one bit. If anything, if you're reading this and questioning if you have to "know tech" to get the jokes - don't, you'll be perfectly fine and will have a great time and it's well worth it's ticket fee.

It's been endearing listening through the show, which is wrapped up beautifully, and I wish Alexis nothing but the best with her performances in the future, she has a unique mix of personal perspective & experience in tech and the ability to turn those into relatable and spot-on jokes in her sketch content, and I'm sure it'll translate into live performances with time.

An enjoyable autobiographical account that uses (a lot of) comedy to tell a legit story of self-liberation from both a job and harmful self-expectations. If you've seen Alexis Gay's short videos, you'll find this performance less manic and more thoughtful, but still set in the same heightened NY/San Fran corporate universe. (And if you haven't seen her videos, you oughta.)

This was the first Fringe show I saw this year and it does not disappoint. Alexis's show is inspiring, relatable and packed with jokes! Overachieving gold star kid or not, you will love.

Relatable for anyone working in tech, mix of stand-up and story-telling. Was lower on my priorities list but would recommend. Good use of graphics for the story-telling

Gay’s performance was endearing ... a relatable routine featuring a smart and professional comedian.
