General venue access

We are committed to making your visit to Summerhall an enjoyable experience and we are working to make our venue as accessible as possible. The building is B-listed and is over one hundred years old and not all of our spaces are fully accessible. If coming into Summerhall using the main entrance please be aware that there are nine steps up to reception and the steps do not have a handrail. Our step free access is through the side entrance on Summerhall Square. The Royal Dick Bar and Restaurant is situated to your right as you come in (with a ramp at the rear of the bar) and there is a ramp directly ahead of you that leads to the Reception, Box Office, Shop and Café and our accessible venues. Although there is no on-site parking at Summerhall, especially during the Fringe, there is parking using either pay and display machines or single yellow line spaces on Summerhall Square beside our step free access. Please be aware that this street is a dead end, and quite short and therefore parking there can be quite competitive. We have lift access to some of the First Floor spaces and the Basement spaces. Further information about individual spaces and shows can be obtained from the Box Office. Wheelchair and limited-mobility access is via the side entrance on Summerhall Square which is clearly marked by the large vehicle gates. As you enter The Royal Dick is situated to the right (with a ramp at the rear) or there is a ramp directly ahead that leads into the main building.

The Machine Shop
Accessible entry: Once in the courtyard, follow the access ramp into the main reception. Down the corridor on your right, there is a lift that will take you down in the basement where the Machine Shop; down the corrirdor through the double doors on your left.

Description

Set in the iconic former Veterinary College, Summerhall's programme is packed full of exciting and challenging theatre, dance, visual art and music from across the world and Scotland for people of all ages. Delicious food and drink is served in The Royal Dick bar plus al fresco bars and street food in our vibrant and buzzing courtyard. There is a café open all day too. Street food and pop-up bars in Summerhall’s Courtyard, a café, restaurant and the famous Royal Dick Bar. 10:00 till late.

Age Limit

After 22.00 the venue is 18+. If an under 18 year old has a ticket for a show after 22.00, they are allowed to attend the showing but are unable to stay at Summerhall after the performance.
