A personal and collective story about rural depopulation, told through storytelling, live music and theatre. Tom Pow draws on his travels for this emotive journey exploring abandonment of the countryside, refugee crises and the great thinning of the natural world, whilst The Galloway Agreement musicians draw on their wide experience of European musical traditions, enlarging the emotional landscape and driving the narrative. ‘All human life is here, and if we cannot easily express what has been lost in the decline of rural places, we surely know it’s gone.’ (Patrick Laurie).   • Accessible entry: There is level access into the Centre from the John Knox House entrance. If entering using the main SSC entrance there are 9 steps up. Once inside there is a lift that can take customers down to the -1 floor which is the top of the raked seating. If not it is 16 steps down to the top of the raked seating.

  • Character Introduction Details
  • Additional information: One of the company members works with Paragon Community Services so is experienced in working with ND and disabled audiences. He will conduct the Touch Tour, meeting audiences in Reception and giving them a short intro while the stage is being set. When the stage is ready the audience will be invited to come in while the lights are still up, see the space and meet performers who can introduce themselves and answer any questions. They won't interact with the audience during the show. The audience has permission to move around/make noise. Readmittance will be allowed during the show. Either the Touch Tour or a short introduction before the show will talk through what the show is about and warn of anything sudden (one instance of raised voices). The company will be issuing programmes for all shows which contain a character list but no plot summary so the audience will be informed at the point of introduction about the essential sequence of events. There are no instances of sudden or dramatic lighting or sound which will require adaptation. The relaxed performance will also be sold at limited capacity to allow social distancing/ease of movement for audiences.

How and when to make an access booking

Our access tickets service is available to anyone who:

  • Would like to book specific accessibility services, e.g. a hearing loop, audio description headsets, captioning units, seating in relation to the location of the BSL interpreter
  • Requires extra assistance when at a venue
  • Has specific seating requirements
  • Is a wheelchair user
  • Requires a complimentary personal assistant ticket to attend a performance
