Description
Under the Mirrie Dancers is an exploration of grief and the complex nature of growing up in a rural setting. This dark comedy drama is set against the backdrop of the beautiful Shetland Islands. We follow a brother and sister travelling home for their mothers funeral. During the journey they begin to come to terms with how their unique and often turbulent upbringing has shaped them, for better or for worse. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Thank you for this - I had a very romantic view of Shetland, but now see that it is just like other "small communities" - yes, people have your back, but they also know all your business, and it can be a bit like a time warp (personal experience)!!
I loved the video, and I especially liked that the writer referenced not only her own growing up in Shetland but seven months working in a care home. That section came across with such realism, especially the grief the character felt on learning of his first client death.
Go and support this show if you can - I look forward to more writing and performances from the author, director and cast.

If you would like to get a glimpse into the “Sheltie” mind then you will find you will,
Touching references re the ferry to Lerwick, some of the people could be those I knew in Walls,
