Description

A glorious May morning in Thomas Hardy's Wessex. Young protagonist Tess sets out, on her fathers' behalf, to claim 'kinship' with the aristocratic D'Urbervilles in hope of elevating her family. However, fate soon begins to move against the innocent, unworldly dairymaid, forcing her to journey along a road which eventually leads her to the brooding ruins of Stonehenge. PQA Worcester interweaves dance, physical theatre, folk music and moving image into Ali Gorton's 2009 adaptation of this period classic. 'One of the few plays I would willingly see again' (Manchester Evening News).
