Description

In a basement office in Illinois, there's a job waiting for you. Sarah Jane is on vacation, and you've been hired to fill in. In this interactive show for one, you'll explore her cubicle, answer her phone and receive her faxes as the story of Sarah Jane unfolds. Sit down, send an email and experience a meditation on life and death between the cells of an Excel spreadsheet. Created by narrative technologists Wolf 359. This was a really interesting little experience. I'd recommend it to anyone - especially people into interactive fiction/novel games and walking simulators. I don't want to give too much away. I was told at the end I'd done something they hadn't seen anyone do in over a thousand shows though. Happy with that!

Felt totally immersive. Loved discovering what was going on. Loved trying to make friends with my new colleagues. I felt like a spy investigating the person who usually works in this cubicle. A blast. Great use of technology!

A really unique interactive experience. The technology is really top notch. It felt a little long to me at times, but the overall concept is very cool and there are multiple story lines to pay attention to. Definitely the most fun I've ever had with Excel.

Best thing I’ve seen - fascinating concept of what narrative techniques can be, using every detail but making you an active, developmental participant, not sticking you on a few predefined rails. Plus uniquely real and touching writing, and brilliant technical craft.

★★★★★ A desk chronicle. Go NOW, thank later!

THE GOOD
* Epitome of Interaction. From answering emails to shredding documents, your actions control the pace of the narrative.
* Meticulous Details. It really was the Desk You Know.
* Immersive Atmosphere. Excel sheets transcend beyond just numbers

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
* A few more hidden story arcs or easter eggs could really fire up the experience for the more inquisitive.
* While I might have wrapped up my 'shift' early, the overall duration fell a tad short of what was promised.

I still left the space feeling ‘changed’ and isn’t that what ‘theatre’ is all about?
