Description

New Year's Eve 2099: a world where ice caps have stopped melting, corporations have gone bankrupt, and petrol is cheap. The absolute freedom has been achieved, man as an overpowering construct has been abolished. In this hyperpositive, futuristic world, the play deals with the perspectives of the two remaining petrol station mascots Esso and Shell, who are lost in a climate-neutral, post-capitalist environment, still wearing their capitalist costumes. In an abandoned petrol station, the familiar icons of once-powerful oil companies meet to find a way through their situation.

In a world of mixed messages how do you get across the impact of the petroleum industry ( and its demise) on life.

Tanken hits this question head on by use of raw, aggressive and innovative physical theatre.

Through use of two well known icons and minimal props , the show explores past usage ( freedoms and consequences) of a hydrocarbon fuelled motive industry right up to how you would use the last drop. Then provides a vision of the immediate aftermath and a commentary on a future utopia. Innovative interpretation of key messages are enthusiastically performed by the two main performers.

The show is designed to organically develop throughout its run, through inclusion of audience feedback. I did, will you?
