Description

Scotland is a country blessed with abundant natural beauty and mystical landscapes. Equally striking are the many supernatural wonders featured in Scotland’s traditional tales. Dougie Mackay shares stories of strange places full of fantastic creatures and curious characters, where the veil is thin and the people are wise, wild and terrifying. Come bathe in crystal clear waters, shift-shape and face the most ferocious Scottish beasties in a selection of marvellous tales, gathered from tradition and presented fresh for a modern audience.   • Accessible entry: There is step free access at the John Knox House entrance of the building, the main entrance door for Storytelling Centre has 9 steps leading up to to it from street level. If not taking the lift there is then a total of 17 steps up to the library (9 steps, a landing, and then 8 additional steps). All guests enter library through same door once inside the building.
  • Wheelchair access type: Level Access, Lift (Building Lift)

  • Stairs: 20+
    Number of stairs is provided as guidance and is not in addition to any wheelchair access type (lift/ramp etc) stated above.

How and when to make an access booking

Our access tickets service is available to anyone who:

  • Would like to book specific accessibility services, e.g. a hearing loop, audio description headsets, captioning units, seating in relation to the location of the BSL interpreter
  • Requires extra assistance when at a venue
  • Has specific seating requirements
  • Is a wheelchair user
  • Requires a complimentary personal assistant ticket to attend a performance

After the madness of the mile, it was very nice to have a change of pace by listening to four short stories narrated by Dougie MacKay who was a very engaging storyteller. An enjoyable hour

Saw this show today -- and am so glad that I went! Very engaging storyteller keeping oral myths alive. He did a wonderful job drawing the audience in right from the start - and essential part of the storytelling experience. Would definitely go to hear him again. Thank you.

Dougie is a charming host and quickly hit it off with the audience, asking for suggestions - from adults as well as children - and creating an easygoing, relaxed atmosphere. [...] if you have children this age who enjoy stories you won’t go wrong - the bonus is you’ll enjoy it it just as much.
