Description

Suffragettes is compelling, visceral epic theatre with 12 original songs in the style of our acclaimed, award-winning show, That Bastard Brecht. It is the undiluted story of the callous brutality of men and how Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragettes, after a decade of peaceful political dissent, escalated their protest into choreographed violence, met with the horror of hunger strikes and the cynical degradation of the Cat and Mouse Act... Deeds not words.

Introduced via a male ‘chorus’ of one, bedecked in Union Jacks, we are invited to a time in Britain’s history where women have few rights. Followed by a vignette of Punch and Judy, the tone is that men wield brutal control over their women.
