Description
Stevensongs: Stevenson meets the French touch! Setting to music some of the most beautiful poems and letters by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, the French duo Fergessen, directed by Nora Granovsky, create a live synthetic-folk atmosphere, where text and music intertwine. An echo chamber for Stevenson’s words to ring both in English and in French. Here starts a sensitive journey towards inner and faraway places. 'For no man lives in the external truth among salts and acids, but in the warm, phantasmagoric chamber of his brain, with the painted windows and the storied wall' (Robert Louis Stevenson). Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Hauntingly beautiful songs wonderfully performed by French duo Fergessen featuring poetic lyrics in both English and French. Stevensongs is one of those hidden gems within the Fringe. Didn't know what to expect but so thankful we went! Thank you Fergessen for an unforgettable show of music and spoken word.

Absolutely brilliant, immersive performance of Stevenson’s work. Switching between French and English seamlessly, singing and playing beautifully, Fergessen were captivating. I even had to buy the CD after!

Wonderful love it !

The performance echoes and complements Stevenson’s dualities, his time spent in Scotland and France reflected in the bilingual lyrics, the expanse of his literary output contrasting with his short lifespan whilst enduring both good and ill health, and his 19th century prose and poetry encapsulated in 21st century techno folk music. Additionally, the multi-instrumental skills of Michaela and David combined with the technical complexities of the production contrast with the relative simplicity of RLS's lyrics. The mood lighting and projected backdrop produce an ethereal, hypnotic atmosphere to a performance full of the "joie de vie".
